Safari Newbies in Seattle

Hi from a couple of new Streamers from Seattle (Len & Dail).

We've never had a trailer before, but the wife and I always wanted to find and fix up a vintage Airstream that we could use for exploring around the Northwest. Well, a couple weeks ago, we brought home our dream project, a 1966 22' Safari International. We purchased it locally from a person that brought it up from California, and though it needs quite a bit of work, we're looking forward to spending the Summer fixing up our baby and getting her on the road in the fall. This one has had most of the interior removed except for the bathroom, but has the interior panels intact. (I've included a few photos of her arrival at our place).

We've explored this forum for over a month, and have found the folks here really great and always willing to provide lots of helpful info. We're looking forward to getting to know many of you, and also look forward to sharing our restoration adventure as well.

Len

Welcome to the forums! You must be handier than I am, given your first airstream is a project! I just got my first vintage too, so I'll be following similar threads as you during our restoration.

Have fun. I'm looking forward to the adventure...

Sounds like a great project! Can't wait to see more photos as the project progresses.

Welcome! We cruise through Seattle every year, we might even plant one of our Airstreams over by Port Townsend. Great area, especially if you have a kayak, too.

It looks like you might have a Modern Shed in the background, or something similar. We like that architecture, also.

Hello Len & Dail and welcome,

We are just North of you in Marysville. We purchased our '73 as storage shed since "it's too far gone to be a trailer". Its looking preety good now and we get alot of enjoyment out of it. Happy to lend any assistance...

We're in Kirkland, with our '11 Bambi. I have a hard time getting suction cup hooks to work so vintage isn't an option for us but I can imagine how excited you must be. Congrats!

Hi again Len and Dail:
There is a trailer that looks a lot like yours in a storage yard practically under the Freemont Bridge on Northlake way.
It's stripped down to bare bones and I could see it was full of parts (maybe windows/door etc. Sitting on flat tires..Body, curb side looked straight.
Might help if you had a "parts" trailer to help you with your project. Or a parallel project for a friend.

Thanks for all the warm welcome replies everyone! It's great to see so many fellow Airstream owners in the local Puget Sound area. We really appreciate that there are so many locals that have these wonderful trailers.

We're moving ahead pretty rapidly to gather parts for our project, and yesterday, the new axle assembly arrived from Inland RV, along with all the new curved glass and other bits. We have rivets and tools coming in the mail soon, and want to get the trailer jacked up off the wheels so we can start working on the aluminum skin and flooring as soon as the Seattle weather clears up (hopefully before June).

Del, thanks for the head's-up on the nearby possible parts donor. We'll have to check it out to see if anything we need might be available. We'll keep you posted on progress.

Len & Dail

Which reminds me... on route 20, east of Annacortes, there is a closed drive-in with about 40 vintage trailers stored in the open--maybe 7-10 Airstreams. The location is right next to the Ford dealer at
48 27.71N
122 33.83W

Here's a couple of snapshots of the lineup--many more Silver Streaks and similar are also in the yard:

I'd sure like to know more about the owner.
