'Retiring one long weekend at a time'

My wife and I are the proud owners of a new airstream 30 ft flying cloud. The airstream replaced a previously brand new 27 ft flying cloud purchased in September of last year. We loved the 27 but could not resist the extra 3 three feet of space in the 30. We did not even consider any other brand before purchase.

I must say we have immensely enjoyed "retiring one long weekend at a time" over the past few months. Since our original purchase of the 27, and following our purchase of the 30, we have spent 33 nights aboard at various campgrounds. It has been a sensational experience thus far. Along the way we have come to understand that camping is as much about the airstream as it is about a campground.

I would like to post more photographs of the beautifully decorated interior but do not know how. Any help would be appreciated.

Can't help with the picture postings, but can welcome you to Airstreaming and the Forums. Both are wonderful. Enjoy yourselves.

I figured out how to attach photos. I attached a few out our airstream interior. We are thrilled with our purchase to say the least"

Looks great - I guess you've figured out a system to get everything stored while driving. Very comfortable!

I don't consider it retiring one weekend at a time, but it's close. In my case, it's "Retirement practice." I bought my Airstream a little over two years ago, and plan to retire at the end of this year.

New Orleans television personality Frank Davis once said, "The secret to a happy life is: One, find something you really enjoy doing. Two, do it better than anybody else. Three, find someone who will pay you to do it." That describes retirement Airstreaming perfectly. I enjoy doing it. After three years of Airstreaming practice pre-retirement, I should be pretty good at it by the time I actually retire. And of course having Uncle Sam pay me a retirement check takes care of that last part.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

Your pictures of the 30 footer look great. Very nice looking interior. We especially like the 30-A sticker on the wall.

SuEllyn and I have been retired for almost ten years. In the last eight years, we have spent almost 1,400 nights in our Airstreams. It has been a great way to retire.

30a and Seaside is one of our favorite destinations. When time and reservations allow we would love to stay at Grayton Beach State Park. We are staying at Henderson Beach State Park in October. We are loving the airstream lifestyle!

Henderson is great! Where else can you be camped at the beach, feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, and yet walk across the street to Wal-Mart. Grayton is nestled between the ocean and Western Lake. I don't know of anywhere else you can be camped on the ocean and the lake at the same time. Grayton now has a new campsite section on the lake that has full hook-ups.

We live south of 30-A about three miles west of Grayton Beach.

We've been coming to Seaside for 30 years. We love the place. Modica's Market rocks! It's so hard to get a reservation at Grayton Beach, though. You have to do it months in advance. The same goes for Henderson Beach. We recently stayed at Camp Gulf in Destin and it was very nice. As far as storage of the appointments goes, we do have a system. It's really not a big deal to bubble wrap breakable items and store in a Rubbermaid container during transit. It only takes a few minutes to unwrap and set up upon arrival. We also have attached many things(pictures, magnetic board, picture board, plaques, etc.) to the interior walls with the use of locking commercial Velcro. It works perfectly well, holds securely, and nothing has fallen during tow thus far. The key is to use several pieces of Velcro and make certain it is securely locked in place. Further, no nails have been used and no wall damage occurs. I wish I had invented that stuff! Again, thanks to everyone!

good to know

Can you give info on the Destin campground. My father used to take us there because we missed snow. The sand was so white. When we went there in the early 60s, it was just The Jack Tarr Motel with a junkyard next to it, and an abandoned shack on the beach. When went back 25 years later, it was wall to wall condos. I am a little surprised that there is a campground in Destin.

Camp Gulf is not actually in Destin. It is in Miramar Beach, which is in Walton County. Destin is in Okaloosa County.
