Retirement + Airstream = Happiness!!!

Bob and I are planning to retire in a few months and have started our search for an Airstream travel trailer. We were both single parents for many, many years and have decided that this is "our time" to explore! Looking forward to advice and comments from "veteran rvers". Oh, almost forgot! We're looking for a used, International, 25 ft FB. Not sure when Internationals first came out but we need one as old as possible to get the price down to something we can live with.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

First off, welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

We have a 2005 25FB, named Lucy, that we have spent almost 500 nights in and have pulled over 50,000 miles. You are on the right track with a 25FB.

You have found the right place for all of the Airstream and RV info that you will need.

We are currently camped in SuEllyn's Dad's yard in Jacksonville. PM me if you would care to come over and see Lucy and discuss Airstreams.

Brian

We'd love to!!!

Thanks for the invitation. We'd love to come see "Lucy"!!! Unfortunately, I'm leaving for N. Ga tomorrow for a couple of weeks. I know this is short notice but could we come by this evening? We're anxious to make a decision so that I'll know exactly what to look for. Where are you in Jax? We live in the Mandarin area.

That could work for us. Give me a call on my cell at 850-830-9444 or email at brian@moosetags.com. We are on Westside near Cassat and San Juan.

Welcome to the forum - word of advise "price doesn't always represent good or reasonable quality". Best of success in your search.

Welcome, kindred spirits and future fellow travelers! Maggie single-parented for 16 years, Doug for 8, now together 23 and married for 17. We retired 2 years ago and have put 57,000+ miles on our Interstate. It's a wonderful life.

It is your "time", as it is ours. Have fun searching for the perfect trailer, and will look for you on the road.

Hey from GA-
We purchased a gently used 2004 28' CCD in February of this year. I fell in love with the mid-century look of the early CCD's. The metro look of the later models just didn't say 'fun' like the older ones to me.
I am a bent plywood fan as well and wanted the side dinette. I also wasn't sure I could live without a microwave. I loved the layout of the 23 & 25FB's so I considered them as well.
In my search for a used CCD I discovered that the FB models are recent and only come in the metro style. That means used units are rare and if you can find one they are still quite pricey.
Well, I don't miss the microwave at all, the combo tank of the 2004 has not been a problem and the $$$'s we saved were many. Plus we found the unit within 200 miles of our home. No complaints.
We love our CCD and have put well over 6k miles on it already. We will be in North Georgia next weekend for the Six Gap ride.
Hope you find the perfect trailer soon. We are not retired or empty nesters but we are close. Our boys are very responsible home schooled 16 & 18 year olds. My husband is self-employed and we have a lot of freedom to get away for long weekends. We still look forward to the complete freedom we will have to roam when we get to the stage you are now approaching. I hope you keep posting because I love to follow the adventures of others on the forums!

Good luck with your RV search. This is probably a good time to find a deal. Congrats on your upcoming retirement! We haven't retired but we did take the last six months off to travel from coast to coast when we picked up our trailer. Considering the hard core travelers in this forum, we have only put some 15,000 miles on our rig but have loved every mile and every day. It would be an understatement to say it has been a life changing event. Good traveling!!
