Recently purchased a 1956 Safari 06392. 1st Airstream for us.

Hello everyone. Happy to join the Airstream community. Unfortunately our experience has been a bit overwhelming due to my lack of research and inspection before purchasing. With that said our unit is gutted and belly pan and sub floor are gone. The frame needed rebuilding and is complete and c channel and new sheeting inside and out are in route or at least will be here this week. I have a lot of pictures I will post before , during and after frame reweld .I should have joined this site before using my sawzall. I remodel foreclosed homes and thought a small trailer would be a breeze to gut and rebuild. So After a long winter here in Wausau , WI. We're ready to start subfloor and lower interior wall rebuild. Rivet shaver is needed and were going to try to use Eco friendly products with weight and sensibility in mind. I'm looking forward to reading up on past owner experiences that I will be encountering. More to be revealed later on my whole purchase experience and how I over payed and deception on the condition of unit. Great lesson learned.

I have many memories of Wisconsin winters from my years in Grant County, and followed news of your very snowy winter from Southernmost Illinois. It sounds like you have quite a project on your hands with the skill-set to handle its demands. You are in a region with a WBCCI (Wally Byam Caravan Club International) Unit that has an active Vintage contingent. There are several restorers in the unit and one of the past Unit presidents has restored several Vintage Airstreams. Even though I have not lived in Wisconsin for more than a decade, I still maintain my membership in the Wisconsin Unit.

Good luck with your project, and I will be looking forward to following your restoration here on the Forums!

Kevin

Thanks Kevin . Appreciate the response and encouragement. We will get a little more motivated on joining the Airstream community once I see a subfloor attached to the body and a sustainable game plan that can be completed by September. Giant task at hand and looking forward to being taught many new lessons on how to remodel a trailer the right way.
