Purchase of a used 30+ Landyacht

We are considering purchasing a land yacht, gas, 1990 -2000 in the 30+ ft range.

Does anyone have any information on how the Airstream stacks up to all the other makes and models out there.

Are their any particular problems we should look for.

Welcome...I recall reading somewhere on the forum that some motorhomes of this era had leak problems...try a search...I have no direct knowledge of these newer mhs but find them attractive, especially the 30' with rear bed and couch with 2chairs and foldup table up front...I have and love the older mhs...mine is a 79...good luck in your search....joe...

Much is based on the maintenace of the individual coach.
As any motohorme of this type it should be closely inspected for leaks, problems with the coach systems, and of course all mechanicals.
A good list for motorhome pre- purchase checking is available here in this Forum, Just do a search for it.

You may want to call Dave Schumann...

It may be worth it to call Dave Schumann who is the GM of Customer Relations for Airstream in Jackson Center, Ohio a call.

The number is (937) 596-6111

There was a similar motorhome in for repairs when I visited with my 1950 Cruiser last month. Dave gave me a personal tour and was very friendly and knowledgable. He would have good advice from a service standpoint

Good luck!

We bought a 2002 Land Yacht 30 in nov 2005. A boat dealer took it as a trade-in. 59 000 km ( 37 000 m). Great shape, very clean. The previous owner changed the oil every 6000 m, not great but enough. The MoHo was used regularly. But the dude never changed the oil on the genny because of the low hrs (32). Paint was peeling on the oil filter... I did spoke to the guy, an old man of German origin. These people keep their things CLEAN!

I checked everywhere for sign of water ingress, none. No smell of humidity. Tire wear was even. The engine started easily I put in an offer two days later, requesting that all maintenance be completed - winterising, lube oil and filter, genny. I drove the Moho home, 300 miles and I am absolutely happy with my purchase. It drives like a car! Fuel consumption was close to 10 m/usgal.

One reason I bought it is that a buddy of mine has had one for three years and he is very happy with it. We knew the RV for spending some time in it. No slide but it is a high-end product, not an entry level. All materiel is high quality. Real wood, no laminates. Well worth the money.

So check for signs of water ingress and ask for maintenance records.
