Our 1987 Safari has two gauchos that are going to be recovered. But first, we are trying to find ways to fix them. Both will not go back into the couch mode from the bed mode easily. They stop and it takes an act of congress to get them back into couch mode. Secondly, the spring on one now only keeps the couch back in forward position instead of resting toward the wall. It seems sprung. How do you unspring it? Thanks in advance for the help.
In your post you say 1987 Safari, and in your member identification you list a 1978 Safari.
They used quite different gauchos, the 78 had a factory developed kind of jack knife bed and the 87's used the "flip lounge" which was not an Airstream produced product.
So, it will help folks who want to help to be sure which one you have, 78 or 87.

OOps. It is a 1978 Safari. Can you tell me more about it?
