owning a vintage 'Stream'

I am a, some-what, elderly lady who decided she has to have an Airstream travel trailer and hope to learn all I can by joining you good people. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks, Terri

I know a wonderful divorce' who had the itch for years and after her divorce was final in her late 60's, she purchased her first Airstream. I don't believe she had ever towed anything but she sold her house and bought a Surburban, a 28' Airstream and has been enjoying full timing for several years. She told me she did take some lessons on baking the trailer and backing up to her trailer, but she doesn't have any help backing into campsites or hooking up.

She will tell you very quickly if she can do it, anyone can. So wheather it is for full-timing, part-timing or just vacationing and weekend trips, don't hesitate on making your dream come true.

A great big Forums welcome to Terri! There's a lot of good info here. Don't be afaid to ask any question, no matter how stupid you think it might be. We have a complete cadre of stupid people (myself included) who are experts in that area.

All kidding aside, ask anything. You may even be able to find a Forum member close by to visit with and get some face-to-face information. When we were thinking about getting an Airstream, we found a very nice Airstream couple who more than willing to help us.

I try to ignor the news when they report on "elderly women" and then say they were in their 50's or 60's. I don't consider that elderly, I don't consider myself elderly, so we won't consider you elderly either. Welcome to the forum and I say "go for it" on the trailer. I got mine a couple of years ago and I love it. I must say that I can't back worth a flip, but I couldn't when I was young either. Of course there always seems to be someone who will let you pull thru a space or get in and back the trailer for you. It hasn't been a big problem for me. Just get an Airstream or Argosy and go out for some fun.

Terri,

Welcome to the forums! There is a great deal of knowledge and support to be shared here... take advantage.

"Age" is relative. Chronological age is irrelevant... I have met people in their forties that my mother (now in her late 70's) could run circles around... "get you Airstream, and get going!"

Have you narrowed down your selection of a trailer yet? Let us know your intent and constraints acquiring a trailer and I am sure, as a community, we can help.

Happy hunting!

You might even consider visiting at an upcoming rally at Top-Sail near Destin the weekend of Jan. 5-7th. You can come for the day or if you have your Airstream by then you can come for the weekend. You'll meet lots of great members of this forum and have great opportunities to tour different models to get an idea of what you might be interested in in terms of size and floor plan. Check out the tread at: http://www.airforums.com/forum...her-27292.html
