Thumbs up Our first Airstream- 1963 Safari

My wife and I are finally the happy new owners of a 1963 Safari. It's going to be a bit of a project but that is exactly what we wanted. We have three months until it becomes our primary residence on a one year continental tour. I'm sure we'll be using this sight often for advice. Thanks for being here!

my partner and i, just recently bought 63 safari as well. We gutted everything, toliet is the only thing left. but that's going too. We're hoping to buy land, and live in it for a year or two. We only have weekends so it'll take awhile to get it up and going. i'll have some photos eventually.

More 63's Yahoo!

Welcome to the forums! We also have a 63 ~ however, ours is a bit smaller... Everything you need to know is in this forum somewhere. Use the search tool at the top... the fine folks here certainly helped us a great deal!

The 63's do not have any kind of manual but we do have some of the literature that came with ours and there are places where folks have put specific things online like printed materials for the refrigerator, etc. If you are keeping the "old" stuff you can find information if you hunt enough!

You are close to us... we were just through your "burg" last week!

Good luck, and have fun! Be sure and attend a forum rally soon! Check out the calendar at the top... great place to find answers and see other Airstreams!

I am looking for a few parts for my 63... did you throw the stuff away you "gutted"???? I need a knob for the overhead cabinet, a knob for the heater, and a replacement nameplate for our Dometic refrigerator. I would be willing to part with cash for the right parts!

Thanks for responding.... sorry to hear you tossed everything... you might be surprised, however, what folks might buy when it comes to Airstreams!

Good luck on your project!

Can't add much to that. I wish people would realize the value of even just the cabinet hardware and catches, the special fiberglass moldings, the aluminum extrusions on the bulkheads. Kind of a shame really.
