Hi,
My husband Bob and I (Lori) are just begining our search for our home on wheels!
Bob was diagnosed with stage 4 Prostate cancer at age 50. He is now almost 52, and has just completed another course of radiation.
When I asked him what he wanted to do for fun...for us...for the rest of our lives, he said he would like an Airstream. He wants to see all of the U.S.A.
So, he is leaving his job on April 1st, I will continue to work for now, and hopefully, we can find a great deal on the Airstream of our dreams.
We have been going to camper shows, sending away for brochures and searching the internet.
We're very excited to hit the road......
If anyone out there knows of a great deal, not any mechanical problems please, we're not real handy. Let me know.
OR, if anyone is looking to rent or lease their Airstream for a while, please contact me.
Thank you,
Lori
Hi Lori, welcome! Seeing the country in an Airstream sounds like a wonderful plan. Be sure to keep an eye on the classifieds here - always something new for sale. Good luck and best wishes to your husband, too.

Thanks again, its nice to be excited about the future!

Grab life while you can and what a better way to enjoy it by traveling the country side in a silver beauty.
Steer clear of the older ones then if you would rather spend your time seeing and doing than on your back repairing---unless you find one that has just been re-done - hard to find and they all still need some attention.
There are some really great deals right now on the later 80's and early 90's - they might have a few issues too but nothing a good RV mechanic can't take care of for you - for a price of course. Try craigslist.com rv.online.com airstream.com classifieds as well as the classifieds here. check out the airstream dealers - or e-bay if your quick...
Then there is off year(or 2) new - for the down payment and the monthly payments for a year or two of traveling - it is priceless!!!! for the return you will have together. Try not to look at the big price tag - you can always sell it when you have seen all you want to see - and I am sure several years down the road there will be other people here at the forums looking for just the right Airstream too...
Happy searching and all the best for a healthy and safe adventure of a lifetime.....

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the wonderful world of Airstreams. You and Bob are at the begining of a great journey! My prayers are with you and to give you a little bit of a lift my Dad beat it twice, so Bob can do it too. There is also a very good friend of mine here on the forum Gunnyusmc, who did exactly what you are planning and guess what? We is still traveling the roads long after we thought we would loose him. So you see, Airstreams have some magic to heal! Sandi and I know nothing better for the heart or soul than traveling in our Airstream. Don't let towing a trailer intimidate you, after a few 100 miles you get pretty good at it and after a few 1000 you are almost an expert. Sandi and I have it down to a well balanced dance when we set up and when we get ready to leave. Use the search feature here on the forums when looking for information on a specific subject, a really great tool. When you start your search, I think the first think you need to ask is how much time are you going to spend in your AS and how much room. Then go from there. Please feel free to PM me with any questions.
All the best to you both and please keep us all posted on your progress!
Rick

Welcome, and good luck in your search and journeys.. If you want to keep the Trailblazer, try to find a smaller Airstream like a Bambi or Caravel, or Argosy Minuet... If those are too small, try modest upgrade to used late model Tahoe or Yukon or Expedition.. Prices modest after gas returned to $3/gallon. If budget is tight, I'd resist brand new Airstream as they're heavier than slightly used ones, and depreciation strikes hard in first year. Small and cozy is fine if you're traveling light.. Try to find one well maintained and in good working order as well, since you probably don't want to waste time doing lots of maintenance and repairs... They're also easier to hook up, easier to tow, can go more places and still offer all of the benefits of traveling by Airstream...

In Theory, there's no difference between Theory and Practice, but in Practice, there is usually a difference...
Sometimes life throws a curve ball at us and we think it's a bad thing but something very positive comes out of it, like a tour around the US that you might never have found time for otherwise. There are cancer survivors on the forum and our Airstreaming has been for many a good part of our getting or staying healthy as well as dealing with the long term healing process. For both of you.
Good luck with your search and if buying used just be careful you buy from someone reputable. There's a lot of advice on the forum available to you to help you through that process, and hopefully with one soon acquired you'll run into many forum members on your trips around the country.
Keep us posted on how your search is going, and stay on top of the units that pop up on the forums classifieds.
May God bless you in a complete return to health. i know that there is an entire community of people on this site who will keep you in their thoughts and prayers. as stated aove, you can check the classified on this site, or just put airstream for sale in your search box along with the state(s) you would like to look for one in and something will pop up. we found ours online and there is one out there just waiting for you. it is a beautiful plan to travel and enjoy life. blessings to you both.
