One happy family :)

Well we did it! My name is mike and we are a family of 4 with 3yr old and 6 month old. We live near Atlanta and two days ago I drove 6 hours, smiled for an hour during my inspection, hitched up for an hour (hensley) and drove home getting back at 4 am.

When my 3 year old woke up I told her to go look out the window for a surprise. She went to the wrong window and yelled "A Christmas tree!" I hollered for her to look out the other window and she yelled "Its huge!, mommy look! A camper!".

Pulling a 29' 89 excella with a 04 yukon denali for the first time (in the middle of the night, with a torrential rainstorm for 2 hours of the drive through south GA) was a bit intimidating. The weights were all acceptable up to a 32 footer and a full yukon, I installed a prodigy p2, have the towing kit and plenty of power, but man that 29 footer looked big next to the yukon.

My hat is off to hensley though, as well as the previous owner who spent the money to put the hensley on. This hitch is phenomenal. I was ready the whole time to do the accelerate + manual trailer brake procedure to stop a sway, but it quite simply never swayed. Not even one time over the 6 hour drive did I feel a sway, even though plenty of occurrences like trucks and wind gusts should have made it sway.

Next, thank you so much to this community for teaching us! The search tool has been very, very rewarding!

We look forward to meeting you all. Starting with the north GA gathering.

We are in D-5 and our current Airstream is a Sprinter based Westfalia. We will be in a really tall van and not the CCD pictured in our avatar. We will have the dog in the photo though! The Westy is gray but the only aluminum is the wheels.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

Congratulations on the new baby! She is truly a beauty. You have started making fond memories that your family will remember for the rest of their lives.

We have pulled Lucy with a Hensley for 70,000 miles, and not experienced a single incident of sway.

Have great Airstream adventures and safe travels.

[QUOTE=fishandfly;947093] two days ago I drove 6 hours, smiled for an hour during my inspection, hitched up for an hour (hensley) and drove home getting back at 4 am.

Wow! First pull, at night after a long day. Wow!

Gorgeous rig!

Wow, she looks immaculate - better than our 1992 Excella 29'.

Congratulations on your Excella. I'm in love with ours - or maybe I should say obsessed.

Hope to see you on the road sometime.

By time constraint not choice. I wasn't exactly driving at normal highway speeds. Barely broke 60mph. I guess one benefit of going slow was probably mpg. I was surprised to see 12mpg.
