Old camper new to Airstream

My wife and I have been camping for 43 years (tent, backpacking, and pop-up campers). We have a 2005 Ford Expedition and are looking to buy a 25 or 27FB with the idea of spending more time on the road, especially in the winter. My questions revolve around the Expedition and any recommendations as to which Airstream (25 or 27) would be suggested. I have pulled pop-ups all over the country, but I am concerned with a longer and heavier trailer. My current pop-up is 19' long and weighs 3000+ pounds.

My wife and I are into photography, history, hiking, fly-fishing (me), music, the arts, reading, and tons more.

Hi Jonah,

Welcome to the forums. The 2005 Trailer Life Towing Guide has the Expy tow capacity rated at 8900 for 2wd and 8600 for 4wd with a GCWR of 14,500 for the 5.4L V8. You would need to know the weight of your vehicle to know if you're within it's limits.

Also get your vehicles GVWR. When the A/S is attached, it may push it over that limit if it's something like 6600 lbs. Airstreams hitch weights are typically hefty. Our trailer is at 1000# +-.

Welcome to the Forums from the Florida Panhandle

We're glad to have you with us.

We have a 2005 25FB named Lucy. We have spent 225 nights in her, and have towed her 30,000 miles. We still love Lucy a bunch, and are camping in her tonight at Hilton Head island, South Carolina.

The Expedition should do OK with the 25, but it might be pushing the envelope with the 27.

Brian

Thank you. My Expedition has a 7300# GVWR. The 25FB we are looking at has a base weight of 5210# and a 7300# GVWR. It is a 4WD with an 8600# towing capacity.
