Old Camper but Brand New Airstream!

Hello All!
New member but have been RVing for past 15 years. We sold our old trailer about 2 months ago but immediately went into severe withdrawals. The cure - we just took delivery of our 2010 Airstream Sport 22. First trip is scheduled for this coming weekend at Davidson River CG in Brevard, NC.
Question - does anyone know if the battery receives a trickle charge when plugged into shore power? I have looked at all the manuals I received but could not find anything about this? Thanks for any input!

Welcome to the AirForums, Lindsey! As far as your questions goes, I think the batteries charge quickly....not a trickle charge. Have fun on your first outing!

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

Welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

I believe the battery receives a regular charge, as needed, when the trailer is plugged into shore power.

Welcome to the forums. You're going to like it here.

I was under the impression that the charger that Airstream installed just fed a constant voltage to the batteries while plugged into shore power resulting in the risk of boiling the batteries dry. Am I confusing the issues or just confused?

Charging Battery

Lindsey,

Welcome to the forum! I think you will be surprised at the wealth of knowledge about Airstreams that exist here. I went to the Airstream web site, Airstream, Inc :: Home and took a look at the 2010 Sport owners manual. On page G-1 lower right it states that as long as the battery disconnect switch is in the on position and you are connected to shore power the converter will charge the battery. I am hoping that since this is a 2010 unit you will have one of the fancy multi level converters that will bring the charge up rather quickly and keep it there.

Welcome, I'm sure you will enjoy your new TT. Our '08 charges full in about 4 hours when connected to shore power but the battery switch must be on. Ours came with a gr24 battery which we recently replaced with a gr27 as we do a lot of boondocking.

Welcome to the forums! And congrats. We caved-in on the new trailer itch, too. Our 2009 has a basic single rate convertor. If the battery switch is on, and you have shore power, the batteries are being charged. It will boil the batteries dry if left connected. I normally charge for around 4-6 hours then use the disconnect switch to remove the batteries from the circuit. The LED indicator on the battery switch panel will remain lit, but if you are listening when you make the switch, you can hear the solenoid disconnect.

HAPPY TRAVELS.
