Not one but two AS!

Hello all!
I've been lurking here for a while and finally bought an Airstream 1976 25' Caravanner. One week later a 1966 Caravel latched on and the rest is history. The 76 is in great shape except for the space in between the windows. (I'll ask about that in the windows forum) The 66 is towable but....so it looks like I'll be asking for a lot of advice. I live and work in Chicago and have a place in Key Largo where the Caravanner will be a third bedroom and a great way to explore the rest of Florida and the South. I have no idea yet about the Caravel. Fix her first then I'll be on the road.
Looking forward
Rich

pictures coming

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah I got it real bad. Couldn't decide which one. On one hand the 76 is ready to go with minor window cleaning or the 66 which needs a lot of work but has good bones. So I did the only logical thing, I bought both!
If anyone knows a good AS restorer in the Chicago area please let me know. I'll try to send some pics when I figure out how to.
Already received some great advice about the windows from another post!
With help like that I should be good. or good and broke

Welcome to the forum! I love the Keys & have to say I'm a bit jealous of your Carravaner getting to live down there! I'm I'm NW Indiana (about 35-40 miles from Chicago). I haven't found a vintage restorer in our area. All of the work that has been done on our trailers we've had ('76 Overlander, '86 Sovereign, '64 Bambi II, & '84 Avion) has been done "in house". We'd love to see some pix of your trailers & if you need help, many people here are very willing to give helpful advise!

Only two?? What a piker....

We plan to restore our 4 "rescues" and presently camp in the other two. DH thinks we should sell the rescues as soon as fixed up, but sheesh after all that work, I don't think I can bring myself to sell them. Maybe we could buy a diesel tractor and pull 3 or 4 at the same time?

Seriously, welcome to Airstream ownership and addiction! I know you will enjoy both of your finds!

I seem to recall an Airstream Factory publicity photo of the late 50's or early 60's showing one car (like a big convertible) towing several Airstreams at once, nose to tail. Anyone else remember such a thing? Any links to it?

Idroba,

If you find that photo, shoot me a copy, will you? Maybe I can use it to convince DH to tow more than one--would that make the in-line trailers toads?

Becky B.,
I'm very fortunate to have a place in the Keys. I already have a nice spot near the Tiki hut for the Caravanner. It will be my hideout for when I have too many guests over I have already gotten some great help from the forum. On a side note I grow a little garlic near you in New Carlisle.
Landshark Now I can point you out and say I don't have it that badWith a name like yours the Key's are a natural for you.

Richchicago,

Been there, got the T-shirt: we grew up in Miami, left as soon as we could due to heat, humidity, bugs, AC. Wouldn't move back if we were given a McMansion there!

My "handle" is because we have Dobermans, aka Landsharks. Seemed appropriate since we have a fleet of Land Yachts!

Hope you enjoy Key West!

Landshark, I had a Caliban too, the best dog ever, definitely missed these many years.
Thank you for tweaking the memory!

richchicago: Welcome you lucky person, post pics soon, we would love to see your new babies.
