northern california newbie

Hi - I have a 1986 Sovereign that I got because I've wanted an Airstream for a lot of years. I pull it with my 1995 Dodge Ram 4x4 diesel. Everything works, but I want to replace the rugs and drapes. I'll watch this site and post as I feel I can contribute.

Hi and welcome to the forums. You don't have to contribute - most of us started by asking loads of how to questions. Get to work!

riesdad,

How about joining our spring rally at Casini Ranch along the Russian River at the end of next week? It's a good chance to get acquainted. The discussion is at:

Hey Riesdad!

Glad to see another local joining the forum. Now that it finally seems to have stopped raining, we can all get back on the road. See you there!

Been there...

Welcome from Silicon Valley! Good luck with renovation.. Sounds like you're going to do your own drapes and carpett, which is more challenging but less expensive... Both Ambruso and Fowler do great job making fitted curtains (Slide off, Slide on...) but it is also possible to make good ones using the old ones as templates. The elastic sliders are sold at several places, including many Airstream dealers and Camping World..

We had luck with carpets finding it at in remnant size and then hiring the Junior Installer for cash from local Carpet Shop, since regular pro's don't want to handle the large number of cuts for small yardage... Worked out fine, with install charge of $120 in 25' trailer... He brough tack strips, cutters and stitching tools/tape, and I would have been very hard pressed to match his work... "Tis better to remove the front couch for carpet install (helps to check the sub-floor as well..) but not necessary to remove other cabinetry...

Hello, I enjoyed your post- you sound like you know of a lot of resources!
Do you know of anyone who can make a gaucho for the front of my 1963 27' overlander? Or someone who might have a pattern...
Many Thanks,
binny binbin@sonic.net

Where?

Binny-

There are lots of threads you can search using search link above in blue bar for gaucho and replacement and re-upholstery as search words. That will take you to some of threads from last few years of others trying to do same.

Bigger question is where are you located. Many shops or upholsterers are local businesses, and might be practical for customers within a few hundred miles. A shop in Calif is not going to help an owner in Georgia much...

There is also option to buy new gaucho/couch from people like Flexsteel or others who make RV furniture... You could cruise local RV dealers and see who made their gaucho's by pulling out and looking for labels.. Others have installed futon frame and cushions from futon store or IKEA...

Finally, members have fabricated their own with plywood and saws and screws.. Cushions made on sewing machine with parts from foam store..

You might check with CAAR, he has a '65 Globetrotter that he is totally remodeling the interior and will be selling off the old parts.
