Hello from Colorado: Welcome to the vintage Airstream community. The mid sixties trailers; 66, 67, 68, are very unique. Many say the 68 model year was one of the best for vintage Airstream. It was the last of the "twinkie" body style. Everything changed in 1969. I worked on a 66 Trade Wind 24' for a number of years. I did what you are about to do. I really enjoyed it.
The mid sixties trailers are known for the "curved Corning glass" windows with these goofy crank Phillips operators. They were designed to give the trailer a sleek jetliner look. Be careful with these windows as they are difficult and expensive to replace the glass or some of the unique parts. These windows are prone to leaking rainwater. These old trailers also have a lockset made by Bargman, also a part that is expensive to replace. They can come apart inside and lock you in or out of the trailer without warning. The attempt at a flush toilet and holding tank was not the best in these trailers. My Trade Wind toilet was leaking and rotted out the subfloor and holding tank pan. There are some other parts rather unique to these trailers.
You will find all kinds of threads and meet all kinds of people who enjoy the vintage Airstream hobby here on Air Forums. Search for 68 Ambassador and stay up all night reading about your new old Airstream.
