Newbs searching for our first Airstream

Hi all!

Super excited to be a part of this group, and to be on our quest for our first Airstream! And we have no idea what to get There are so many choices. Too many choices...but we have to make up our minds because we are about to start our full-timing life on the road. We can't seem to live in one place before we want to move somewhere else. So after much deliberation we've decided we must get busy traveling or die of boredom in a house with no wheels. This is the beginning of our search. Wish us luck and good hunting! (And hopefully one day soon, good travels.)

As is usually the case, the answer to a question is more questions. In your particular case, I'd ask:
  • How much do you plan to spend on a trailer?
  • How handy are you at fixing things?
  • How long are you willing to work on it before you hit the road?
  • How many people will be living in it?
  • What vehicle do you plan to tow it with?

One thing the folks on this list are not shy about is sharing their opinions.

Welcome to the group!!

Congratulations on your choice and welcome.

We have our second 30' and don't think we would want to go down in size, had a 25' and loved it, love the extra room and different set up in the 30'.

Good Luck

We are almost at the point of buying a Flying Cloud in either 25 or 27. Here are some suggestions that have helped us.

Use the search function on this site. For example, there are good discussions about front vs rear bed and queen vs twins.

Decide whether a convection microwave is a good substitute for the propane oven for you. It can create a lot of storage space off you give up the propane oven.

Watch lots of walk thru videos on YouTube. Colonial Airstream has some good ones.

Save the floor plan images of the units that interest you from the Airstream website and drop them side by side in a Word or similar document. Makes comparison easier.

Find a large Airstream dealer nearest you with lots of inventory and spend a full day there. You will see many many important details in person that you can't see on a video or on a printed page. Take notes on the diagrams you prepared. Be prepared to have your then current notions about what will work for you tossed out the window! For example, we were set on a queen bed but have shifted to twins.

I can't stress this point about seeing lots of units enough.

Happy shopping.

Gary

We want to spend no more than $25000. We are very handy. We have months to work on a shell if needed. We're very flexible on our timeline. There will be two adults living in it, plus our pup. We have a Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi to tow with.
Opinions are welcomed! Even ones we don't share LOL.
