Newbies in North Dakota

Hi all! My husband and I are finally getting started on our Airstream renovation project after a 2 year timeout for a wedding and a new baby.

We bought an "updated" '68 Ambassador in June 2014 right in the middle of our move from Massachusetts to central North Dakota. It was our home for about 4 months while we searched for some place reasonably priced (at the tail end of the oil boom) to live. We shared the 28' with four cats, two dogs and a Jack Dempsey cichlid - and realized that the Airstream was not updated as much as it appeared.

We are gutting her and planning to do a complete update - I'm sure we will have lots of questions for you all and we'd love to meet anyone who is local and has completed similar projects. We are close to removing the inner shell.. not excited about this part of the reno!

Welcome!!! There is a great group of Airstreamers in North Dakota/South Dakota/ Manitoba. It's the North Dakota Peace garden Unit of WBCCI! Many of the members have done extensive work on their "Streams". Lots of knowledge about where to source parts, and resources to help you do your reno are here on the site. Don't be afraid to ask anything on this site. Good luck and keep posting. Chris

Welcome to the forums and nice to see a fellow ND Airstreamer! We are in Dickinson and have a 71 Overlander that we have done quite a bit of work on. I would be glad to offer any assistance or just plain get together and visit about your Airstream adventures as well.

Sounds/looks like you have a pretty adventurous project ahead of you. It will be a lot of fun as well as a lot of learning and a few headaches for sure. Ours was in fairly decent shape but still had floor rot and a few other issues we addressed as well as just updating the interior to work better for us and our needs. I do have a bit of our restoration projects on my blog in the signature. I've been bad about keeping it updated over the last year or so. We are trying to do our updates while keeping the trailer usable for the camping season around here.

Once again welcome and feel free to keep us updated on your progress. As CBWELL mentioned there is a nice group of Airstream owners that have done a lot of work and also have a quite a few get-togethers planned for 2017 in and around the area. We look forward to visiting in the near future.

Great to hear that we've got a support system out here 😉 We will definitely be in touch. Don't think we will be getting much done this weekend but keeping out of the wind and snow!
