****Newbie Needs Help**** 1960's Airstream Safari

Hello, I am new to Air Forums - just joined today. I am interested in purchasing an Airstream that I recently found, but I don't know what year it is, and I don't know what a fair asking price is. It definitely needs some work on the inside, there is a broken window, and some dents on the outside. However, the inside seems to be all original. I did take some pictures and was wondering if someone can help me locate the year of this Safari. Thanks in advance.

Hi

Something to be careful about is the condition of the floor and frame. Replacing a lot of floor is painful. Replacing a lot of frame is insane .... If water has been coming in through the broken window or the "dents", you could have a lot of work.

None of this says don't buy the trailer, just be careful. It may be a great deal. If this one has problems, there are other trailers out there.

Thank you. Not sure how to post pictures. Also, I am looking for an inspector to take a look before I purchase.

I do have pictures and I think I figured out that it's a 1968. I just don't know how to post pictures on here. I'm also in need of an Airstream inspector in NJ.

Posting pictures

Go to the REPLY button and open a window. At the top, look for the paper clip icon to attach a file. Click that and an upload window will open. Click the CHOOSE FILE button and a menu will open. Select the picture file you want, and it will upload.

An additional option for posting photos is to go to REPLY, enter your message, then scroll down to "Additional Options" and click the "Manage Attachments" button. It's best to downsize the photos before you upload them (you're limited on how much memory you use, unless you become a Supporting Member.) After you select the photos, click on Upload, wait until it says they're uploaded and close the Manage window.

Good luck,

Roy

The Vintage Airstream Photo Archives site might be helpful.

Fairly easy to identify the '68 Caravels. If yours is a '68, I believe it should have a dinette in the front angled to slightly to center on the window and match up with the street side Gaucho.

The earlier Caravel's had a front Gaucho

Thanks. It's a Safari. No dinette inside.

https://www.airstream.com/service/document-archive/

also you can look through these docs for info , layouts, etc.
And the trailer section of these Forums has specific trailer conversations. Great place to post questions.
Get some photos up here and you will have lots more people chiming in.
