Newbie - just purchased our dream trailer

My husband and I had the opport it's to purchase a 2007 16' Bambi from some friends. They were very honest about repairs and mishaps and adventures. I am not new to camping. We had two pop up campers prior to this and some very funny mishaps and adventures of our own but our goal was always to own an airstream. Is there anyone near us who would be willing to walk through it and give us advice on maintenance and any repairs/concerns?

Is there a list on the forums of tools you should carry in your airstream?

Thanks!

I live in McKinney, Texas.

You are very close to North Dallas RV, an Airstream approved repair facility. They'll do to total check up for you at a reasonable price. They may do a walk through too! Welcome to the club.

You may want to purchase the "Newbies Guide to Airstreaming" available at Airstream Life Magazine, Amazon (including a Kindle version), etc. Well worth the price.

The question about tools is pretty open to a variety of answers.
It depends on your tolerance level for putting up with broken stuff and you skill levels in repair of the various systems. I keep basic wrenches, 1/4" socket set, 3/8" socket set, wire strippers, crimpers, DVOM, screwdrivers and a few specialized things in my repair kit at all times.

If something stops working I stop what I am doing and repair it.

One other thought, does your new trailer have OSB floors? If so you need to understand the devastating results of any water leak in the unit. This is true for any Airstream but much much more so for an OSB floor....

Have fun with your Airstream,
Bruce

Thanks all for the good advice. I did buy the book and it arrived today so hubs and I will be discussing tonight.

I think I will take it to North Texas RV. I will also check my owner's manual to see what the floor is made of.

It's like owning another house: roof, electrical, plumbing; doors, windows, screens; stoves and storage; floors and upholstery. But it's all worth the Ex'Stream experience. Enjoy.

Oh, I'd check the roof for leaks first if I were you. And if there's a skylight, inspect that for cracks and leaks (we've installed two since the factory model disintegrated).

Have fun.

Welcome aboard! All you were afraid to ask and wanted to know is somewhere on a memory chip of the server hosting this website.

Check out Maxim skylights, just in case....

One thread discussing tools can be found at:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f295...it-102727.html

As mentioned previously the Newbies Guide and this forum will have a wealth of information. I seem to remember another thread that had a fabulously comprehensive list. It's there to be found although the key is to tailor your kit to your skills and to your trailer/hitch combination.

Have fun!

Thanks for the advice. They really spruced little Sylvie up. We did have to replace the floor and it did have leaks. Yikes and double yikes. But we had gotten her at a low enough price that we could put some money into it. We ended up with traffic master allure ultra luxury vinyl plank. It is not the glue in but snap in kind and we love it. Looks like stained concrete. I am having the cushions recovered because of leaking there was water stains and odd smells. Now, I am going to replace the curtains. I will have to take pics when it is done.
