Newbie Introduction

Hi, We are Airstream Newbies and loving it.
It took 2 years of wishing, hoping, wanting, and dreaming before we made the decision to become Airstream owners. After many hours of hunting and pecking on the computer we decided on a 2015 25 foot Flying Cloud with rear twin beds. It is pulled from place to place by a 2014 Ram 1500 4wd with 4 corner air suspension. We have had it a month and have been out Airstreaming three times. Pulled it to the Oregon Coast twice and over a mountain pass to Bend, Oregon during a snowstorm once. Truck and trailer handle great. We did make one modification. I removed the dinette table and short bench and replaced it with a comfy Lay-z-boy recliner. This works much better for us. The Airstream has been christened with the name of Claire and the little doggie white fur puff is Carl. We are excited to be a member of the Airstream Family and looking forward to many exciting adventures with Claire.

Congratulations! The excitement of having "Claire" in your family comes thru in your post.

Now a few obligatory questions. Are you happy with the RAM as a TV? Did you run into any payload issues? How does the 4 corer air suspension work when towing? What WD hitch are you using?

Wishing you many happy adventures!

Welcome. We also have a 25 Rear Bed with the queen bed, and tow it with a late model Ram 1500. Great design, sounds like you are enjoying it very much and glad to see you are adapting it to your needs.

We spend more than half the year in ours traveling about the country and snowbirds in winter, and made a few adaptions to fit our lifestyle.

Took out all the bench seating for two recliners, center console, foldout wall table, and storage compartment under the tv. Changed the door swing by turning it upside down and mounting it on the opposite side. Added a 10" x 20" mirror in the bath. An easy model to tinker with the floor plan.

Welcome, always nice to see another NW Airstream. Lots of activities with other Airstreamers in the area if you are so inclined. There's the Oregon WBCCI unit, and we try to stir up a few informal rallies as well every summer. Enjoy!

Response

So far I have found no problems with the Dodge as a Tow vehicle. With the 3.92 gears it max’s out at 9,600 lbs. With the trailer Max’ed out and the payload in the truck I am still about 1500 lbs under.
The dealer set the trailer and truck up with the Blue Ox hitch. It is working with no problems.
I do not notice any change with the air suspension when the trailer is connected. It is supposed to lower the truck about ¾ of an inch when driving at 63 mph automatically. There is a bypass for this but so far there have been no issues. The nice thing about the air suspension is being able to lower the truck 2 inches making exiting and entering the truck a little easier.
