Newbie - Atlanta ga

I am looking to buy a 1974 Tradewind in atlanta area. I have looked at one twice and want to buy it. It has solar and looks great. I enjoy the forums but some scare me about my purchase. Is there anyone in the Atlanta area I can ask for a third opinion. I really want to buy this, or should I say I really want to buy an Airstream.

Hi proctorr,

Have we met? We're in the Atlanta, Ga area and there are several other forum members in metro Atlanta. I'd be happy to look at the trailer and may be helpful bouncing ideas around. However, I am not an expert and I don't know what it takes to restore a unit. My casual looking around at Craigslist and here on the forums indicates there are a wide variety of prices.

If the trailer just needs TLC that's one thing. If it needs major fixes that can get very involved, very quickly. Post some pictures. Maybe others can comment based on what they see in the photographs.

So... if I can be of help send me a PM with your contact info. We can meet at a suitable location - maybe at the sellers place - and discuss the trailer.

Lucius

Nice looking on the outside. Maybe it will work out and then you can attend the rally at Hiawassee in mid April and the one at Stone Mtn at the end of April. Good luck with it all!

Stone Mountain is good for me. Are weekdays or weekends better for you? In general, I'm available for the next two weeks. After that I have commitments. If you want to meet let me know and I can send you a Private Message so we can trade contact information.

The trailer looks good on the outside. Your list covers several major concerns. The trailer appears (from the outside) to be in working order. The axles don't appear to be sagging. There are some basic dimensions that can be checked regarding axles. Search for threads regarding axles to find the information. Hook up the water. Check the faucets, toilet, sinks, etc. Turn on the furnace and see what happens (within reason). Check the stove, fridge, etc. It takes at least a day, maybe two, for the fridge to cool down. Floor rot - open all doors and cabinets, pull up the beds, get behind the couch, take off access doors and start poking around with a screwdriver.

There are probably some experts out there that can do an evaluation. I think there is a topic/forum on this web site to engage a person that has seen other trailers and can make an educated assessment of your potential rig. I'll be glad to help if you want me to assist.

It looks nice. I'd probably just buy it. Air conditioner, axles, tires, water heater, furnace, refrigerator, and all gaskets will not even cost $10,000.

Welcome from Ball Ground

I spent lots of time restoring a 1976 . It was an enjoyable and rewarding project. My opinion depends on how mechanical and do it your self person you are. These things can be consuming. Avoid floor rot, other stuff can be fixed. Do plan to pull it to Hiawassee or at least come and visit especially Saturday where there will be several beautiful restored AS and you can get some ideas how to fix one up. Any one on this forum will help you if they can. Good luck on your purchase.
