Hi, my name is Tim and I'm new here and have been the proud owner of an Airstream for a week now. I thought I had bought a 1968 16' Airstream Safari, but that wasn't a choice on the list when I signed up here. The bad part is that I am going to have to get a builders title for it as it did not come with the original title. Hence the reason I'm not sure what it is. Are there any resources that I can look up the serial number and see what I have??
The old dude I bought it from had previously gutted it and attempted to make new cabinets, but his craftmanship was seriously lacking. So right now I have it gutted again and will be remaking it to be a cozy little camper to take on our vacations to Colorado. (we own 5 acres out there and it has a well and electric too, can you say RV site?? )
By the way, we live in SW Missouri.

I dont know to much about it but somebody on here can help I am sure if you have any pics post them but usually it can be done with the vin number in that number it will tell you date location and type or at least mine did ....SAM

First of all.....CONGRATULATIONS on the purchase of Your Airstream! They sure are a lot of fun. I live in Colorado too and have a 1966 Safari...so near the age of Yours.
Please post the VIN/Serial number and someone will be able to help you decipher it. They are not difficult to decode.
Also.....got any pics of the new purchase?
While You have it gutted, check the floors etc.....this is a good time to fix things that You normally can't see.
Hi Tim! If it's a short 1968 model, it's most likely a Caravel if it's 17' bumper to hitch... or if the cabin alone is about 16' it's most likely a Globetrotter 20'.

Okay here's what I've got so far:
On the Airstream tag on the passenger side is this number: 223t264
It only has a single axle.
Measurements from the rear of bumper to front of body is almost 20'.
And from rear of bumper to front of tongue is almost 23'.
Will that help determine what I have??
Oh and it does have the Safari emblem above the Airstream plate on the side.

You'll have to be careful about keeping your cabinet rebuild fairly light. It might pay to get to a rally to see a similar era Airstream. There was one in the Branson area this weekend -- too bad.
It'll be a great winter project.
Anybody have any idea what the dry weight of it is??
It should be lighter since I took the antique A/C unit off the roof yesterday.
I was glad the roof was not permanently sagged from it.
