New (used) 2004 28' CCD

Hey from GA-
We purchased a 2004 28' CCD a couple of months ago. Love it!
We tried a barely used Winnebago Aspect a year and a half ago. Our teenage boys despised it. My husband and I loved RVing but our son's have busy schedules and we had trouble finding time to use it. We sold it a week before the gas prices sky rocketed. Woo Hoo!

Then we went to the Atlanta RV show and fell in love with Airstreams. The search was on. We found a barely used 2004 28' CCD. (Reminds me of the classic mid-century pieces I grew up with in my home) We can justify the unit because it is on the down side of its depreciation curve and even if we can't use it regularly for a few years, we won't be watching its value plummet like the Aspect.

We have taken two trips so far. One with just 3 of us to FL and we just finished a trip to Washington DC with the entire family of four. We did great!

The boys love it. They appreciate the timeless design. They were not impressed with the Aspect. Dork-Mobile was one of their kinder titles.

We have a classic cross-country trip planned for the summer. They are so excited. We are blessed to have sons, aged 16 and 18, who have never been too cool to be seen with their parents.

Yosemite and Half Dome here we come!!!

hello .... also from Georgia here ..... congrats on the airstream, we went out west and to Yellowstone in 2007 and had a blast, then up the Blueridge Parkway from start to end last year, I can't wait to see where the next long trip will take us, we are thinking this November maybe the Fla. Keys.

Welcome from the Florida Panhandle

Welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

You're going to love your trip out west. We've made the trip several times. We never get tired of Airstreaming. We have four sons, one of whom now has his own Airstream.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

Our #4 son (the youngest, he's 31) is getting married on the beach here on October 17th. Lucy is being pressed into service as a guest room for the wedding.

Welcome Bird's Nest -

I too fell in love with the CCD, and a few years ago I bought a 25' CCD after one successful camping trip with a tent... Nerve-wracking, but as soon as I saw the interior I fell in love, and have since spent the best camping weekends with the family.

However, I've always coveted the 28'... Next weekend we're going to trade the 25' in for a 28' - very anxious for next weekend to come!

Enjoy your Airstream - cheers!

We've had our Safari 22' since June & love it. I'm curious about your trip to Washington DC. We plan on taking the kids (twin 14 yr old girls & 12 yr old girl) to DC for Spring Break. Where did you camp at?

Congrats on your CCD! What color scheme is the interior?
Be sure to post pics if you have them and visit here often for advice on everything Airstream!
Best of luck!

Cherry Hill Park is the Closest Campground to Washington, DC :|: Cherry Hill Park
This is a great park. You can catch a bus to the METRO at the camp but it is easier to drive the 2 miles to the closest station.
Cherry Hill is not particularly scenic but the location and staff make it an A-One camp ground.

Two extra things we did that were memorable:
1. Night time bike tour of the monuments-Beautiful!
Guided Bike Tours and Rentals|Bike the Sites|Bike and Roll Washington, DC|Bike Rentals|Alexandria|Old Town|Union Station|Bikestation
2. International Spy Museum-Operation Spy
INTERNATIONAL SPY MUSEUM - OPERATION SPY
Total tourist trap but fascinating. We did the "Operation Spy" program. We have boys, 16 & 18.

Call your state rep ASAP and get signed up for the Capitol, Washington Monument and White House tours.

Schedule an entry time to the Holocaust Museum. Most of the Smithsonian buildings do not have lines but this one is newer and they recommend that you reserve an entry even thought admission is free.

Have a great trip!

DC is a big bang for the buck trip because most of the important sights are FREE!

I have to say that you've got some great ideas - I've always wondered where to put the garbage can in my 25'. Now that I'll be moving on up to a 28, I was hoping to find a better solution. Great job!

If you go to Yosemite, you should check out the campgrounds well in advance. It is a very popular destination in a very populus state. If you plan on staying inside the park and don't have reservations, you may be disappointed if you just arrive and hope to find a spot -- there won't be any.

Yosemite and Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks are beautiful, but I'd go just slightly before or after the peak season to miss the crowds, if possible.

With such a long drive, you might want to consider Yellowstone as an alternative. It is packed in the summer, too. However, there are lots of good campgrounds just outside the park (we stayed in West Yellowstone, at the Madison Arm RV Resort), and the geysers and mud pots are drastically different from the huge trees in Yosemite. Both have lots of waterfalls, etc. though (but Yosemite's water flows tend to slow, late in the season).

Happy trails!

Hey Phoenix-
Our trip was in June. This thread was started in April and did not get action for a long time.
I revisited it a few days ago, noticed that Moosetags was from Santa Rosa Beach, added the wedding pics and interest in the thread picked up.

We had a great trip after our engine trouble on our first day out.

We made our reservations for Yosemite the day registration opened. Tried for a valley spot but even with 4 computers ready we did not get one. That was amazing watching things fill up within seconds. We settled for Tuolomne Meadows and realized after we got there that we would have hated being in the valley anyway. Things have changed since our last visit 15+ years ago!

We spent a night in Phoenix. Played disc golf at a park. Visited the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) main office. Checked out Taliesin West but did out get to take a tour due to the time we lost w/ truck trouble.

Here is the thread about our trip.
We also lost a hard drive w/ 2 completed but un-downloaded videos on it. Took the wind out of our blogging/vlogging sails.

Thank you for the great info. We hope to take another epic trip next summer and hit Yellowstone.
