Smile "New to Us" '78 Argosy Minuet

We have been looking for an Airstream, and our dream came true. It had been stored in a backyard in Utah for 20 years without moving at all. We have been cleaning it up and trying to get it road-worthy. I want to update and add some bright color without a lot of tear-out and without losing most of the vintage appeal. So far I have been making new drapes, then I want to get upholstery redone. I am interested in contouring the dinette area to make it a little less rectangular and more curved to highlight the window and shape do the trailer. We are excited to learn more about Our "new" Argosy.

Welcome! We have a Minuet that has the composite aluminum floor. It is a nice little unit. We have done lots to it. The biggest thing to have checked out before you go down the road too far is the axles. If it sat and sat for all of those years, the axles are probably toast. If you drag it down the road like that it will pop rivets and do all kinds of nasty stuff to the insides. You can read all about it on the forums. We replaced ours and it was a great move.
So far, we have replaced or redone lots of things as they expire. I did the upholstery and drapes. Larry has replaced the hot water tank, the refrig., the AC etc. We still have to research what to do with the floor. It has crossmembers 4 ft. on center and the floor has been used so much that it has stretched between those. So it has a wavy floor. Ugh! We would like to keep it very lightweight, but so far have not stumbled upon anything that will fix the problem and still be very light.
This little AS can be pulled like a dream with just about any kind of car.
My daughter (Airbiscuit) pulls it with the Ford Explorer now. We have used a 95 Chevy Caprice for years.
Happy and safe travels to you!
Lou

My wife I also recently purchased an argosy(1972) from Craigslist. Complete trailer novices. After painting the inside and putting in floors and new counters we took it in for an inspection at an airstream dealer. 2 months later we are hoping to get it back with a repair bill just under the purchase price with still no fridge or air conditioner as well as some discovered floor rot. It has been a debacle - but still can't wait to pick it up. Better luck with your renovation!

Scraps, you will find that when all is said and done. When you are enjoying camping in your Argosy and other campers stop by to ask you about it, you will have this proud smile on your face and have forgotten about all the work an money that went into it.
Congrats on your Argosy.

pictures are coming!

As soon as my son helps me I will put pictures up. We were washing it the other evening and the frige vent cover shattered to pieces. Lots of hornets were upset as that was their nest. We have a plan to replace the vent. I will take pics to share when the vent is fixed.

trouble with getting picture on profile

I must be a tech moron! I can't get the picture to work, and that is why I am doing a reply, just to see if it will come up with a new message!
