Brand new at this - we just bought a renovated 1966 22ft. Airstream it's in beautiful condition and I pull with a 2002 toyota Sequoia. It's wintering in Redding, CA as we live in Mt. Shasta and too cold and snowy for its loveliness. Question: I am taking it on the road to Death Valley and beyond by myself in March/April. I am 63 year old female on a quest to meet America. I would love advice on what to do and where to go if something goes wrong - mechanics?, Triple A - what do you seasoned streamers do? I'm game for almost anything - the almost comes in the guise of mechanical problems as I am kind of useless.

Start with AAA. I think they will even come to you and repair a tire.

Welcome jsage! I would wholeheartedly recommend AAA. Pay for the additional coverage that comes with the Gold membership, and add RV coverage. While they might not tow your trailer, they will come change a tire on it with the RV coverage. The gold coverage means they will tow up to 100 miles, instead of the regular 20 or 25 that come with the standard membership. Worth the additional cost in my opinion.

We came to really appreciate the membership when Kay ended up in a fairly deep ditch on the Boundary Waters trip 2 years ago. Up in the middle of nowhere in Northern Minnesota. One call to AAA, and 60 minutes later the tow truck showed up. But they needed 2 tow trucks to get the Excursion out. So, another wait of about 15 minutes, and then 15 minutes to pull her out. My point being, it was one phone call, and didn't cost us a thing to have 2 tow trucks pull her out.

As noted above, unless you have the rider, AAA does not cover RVs. I prefer Good Sam Emergency road service. Good Sam also gets you a discount at some RV parks too and sponsors Good Sam rallies. They also offer RV repairs, and emergency medical insurance.

AAA is good so is Good Sams. My mother joined RVW after my Dad passed away and they are a large diverse group of women. It really helped gain the confidence and knowledge that she needed to hit the road again. Here's the link.
