Thanks to all for your kudos and advice!

I found my trailer on craigslist in Washington. It was posted just an hour earlier and my partner looked at it the next day. Purchased for $2,500! No title - we heard it was found on a relatives property years ago. And they didn't know who had it prior. The vin# is also torn and is unreadable.
