New to here, but not the airstreams!

Hello everyone I would like to introduce myself to this lovely forum you guys have created. My name is Alex and I am a 29 year old family man with a lot of projects / hobbies. I have two young kids and a wife and I work in a steel mill as a shift supervisor. In my free time I like to enjoy the outdoors by any means necessary. I am currently starting a business in my area, with intentions of flipping airstreams. I understand and admire the values of restorations but my joy is in CUSTOM. Custom anything, the fact that it was not manufactured in mass quantities and the craftsmanship that goes into custom work goes a long way! I know there will be some members that do not agree with what I do but I honestly understand that I am in a niche market and that there is a high risk of recuperating my money that was invested. There is also high reward, as which I have seen in custom auctions. Please feel free to give me some guidance or share ideas as will I. My mother and we currently own two airstreams, one is closely finished and the other we just bought. I'm still getting my feet on the ground as far a the forum world but pictures and project threads are soon to come!

Welcome, vintage trailer restoration is a fast growing and competitive field. Bringing these and other brand of vintage trailers back to useful life is certainly a good thing. There seems to be plenty of people with very deep pockets that are willing to pay more for a beautifully restored vintage trailer than what a new trailer would cost them. Even Airstream has gotten into the act with their rebuilding and modernizing of vintage Airstreams in their custom shop. Good luck with your new business venture.

GoFundME

I currently setup a GoFundME account to try and get my dream to come true faster. I would like to rtaise the money for material to build my first business renovation. If anyone is interested in donating you can click this link (Business startup by Steven Schultz - GoFundMe). I will continue to post results of the build every step of the way regardless of what is funded. The funding is just a good way to kick start this business. Thanks for reading!

New to here, but not the airstreams!

With kind respect, I think this is the wrong venue for this.....
You'll receive some hostility here.....
In regards to soliciting money for this.
Wasn't there another post like this just last week?

I don't know about hostility per se, but I wouldn't expect any response (positive or negative).

Airstreamers who are restoring (or even just maintaining) their own trailers would probably love to have a GoFundMe account opened in their honor to help find their own work - odds have to be close to zero this would be a source of funding for someone else's efforts on that front...

Still - welcome, keep digging around and learning. There are several folks in the forums who have built their businesses without such social fundraising and perhaps there is a lot to be learned from them?

Good luck!

Thanks for the welcome, I did expect a low response from this but I would feel that I would loose out on any opportunity to try and grow this business quickly if I didn't at least bring it up. I will prosper regardless of the fundraising results. I do value the opinions of this forum and will try not rub anybody the wrong way. Sorry if I did so.

Welcome Aboard! Yes, it is good to "restore" and keep them "in the road"... Good for you and good luck!

Sniffing around will give you a "price point" for your audiences... And if you don't gouge people and are providing a superior product you will thrive...
