Hi. We jumped into the AS life with a new FC, 28 feet. Just back from our "shake down" weekend at a seasonal site in the Catskills. Our only complaint is those darn doors, but we are otherwise thrilled, as are our 7 and 4-year-olds. Now to keep in intact for 20 years so we can hand it down....

Looking forward to good info and fun from the forums. You already helped me w/ set up (the best coffee maker, dishes, etc.)!

If the door isn't closing correctly, odds are you probably have too much pressure on the stabilizer jacks and are warping the trailer. These are NOT leveling jacks as on a big fifth-wheel or motorhome. You level the trailer side to side by driving up (or back) on blocks under the wheels. Then you disconnect the tow vehicle and level the trailer fore and aft with the tongue jack. Then you put down the stabilizer jacks until they just touch the ground.

Hi. It's the "accordion-ish" doors that divide off the bedroom and bathroom. They just don't slide well or stay in place. I had seen other complaints about these. Maybe they will come up with something to retro-fit?

The sliding doors that you are referring to are not real great. We have two of them in our 2005 Safari 25FB. Make sure that you clip them on the far side when closed. We did not do that at first and the end pin in the track broke off. We repaired it with a curtain runner. Not clipping the door apparently puts too much weight on the guide pins.

Anyway, congrats on your new baby. Airstreams are well made and they last. Our Lucy has been camped in for over 700 nights and towed over 60,000 miles, and she still looks and works great. We are writing this email in Lucy from a campground in northern Maine.

Not to say that stuff doesn't break or wear out, but as far as RV's go, Airstream is the best of the breed.

If they are like the one hung from the ceiling in our Airstream, lubricate the track and guides lightly and carefully. Don't stain the door with oil. I used a Q-tip dipped in Boeshield anti-corrosion treatment, which has paraffin wax in it.

If they catch as they move along, check the track for damage. The gorilla who installed our track nicked the aluminum rail wherever he drove a mounting screw. I cleaned it up with emery cloth, but would also be a warranty item.
