New to AS forum and looking for 1st AS

Enjoy all the info on forum. getting educated on AS as we are looking at new
25ft FC. My concern is our 2010 F150 towing ability for West Mtns. Flat Fl not a issue! current T@B (Lil Red) goes where she is towed!
Also waiting to see what changes come on 2016 AS.
thanks for all the chatter on forum!

What motor do you have in the F150? We towed our 28' International through the rockies with a 2003 Lincoln Navigator with the 5.4. It worked hard, but it did an acceptable job.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

Welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

As to your question, there are members here who tow 25's with half ton trucks, so it is doable.

Brian

In addition to what engine, let us know what rear axle ratio you have.

Take a close look at "passenger and cargo capacity". That includes people, pets, cargo, and tongue weight in/on the tow vehicle. There is a label in your driver's door frame that tells you what it is. Figure on 800#-1000# of tongue weight transferred to the vehicle by a weight distributing hitch. Subtrract that from the stated capacity and you'll see what else you can put in the truck. My 2006 F-150 4x4 had 1242#. After tongue weight we had around 450# left. With the two of us, three dogs, and a few things in the bed, we were maxed out. It had plenty of tow capacity, 8600# which includes the cargo, so after subracting that out, there was around 7350 left. My 2001 Safari 25 only weighed 6300#, subtracting the tongue weight the truck was only towing 5500#. The problem was we couldn't carry much in the bed of the truck.

The best solution carrying too much stuff is less stuff. Your new Airstream comes well-equipped for travel and the F150 will carry all the gear you (really) need and tow well. You do have to use the transmission for climbing /descending grades but that's why it's there.

Joining you on Airstream search

I'm new too and was particularly interested that you are moving from a T@B. We almost bought one but so glad we held off. Once we saw the Airstream on the lot, we were done. Unfortunately, that delays my purchase for a while but I have so much to learn anyway, the extra time will be used for research and trip planning. Good luck in your search!
