New to Airstreams

Just wanted to say hi to everyone. I just got my first Airstream as an inheritance, it belonged to my wife's father and he willed it to us. It is a 1958 18' Traveler, its in pretty good shape but could use some fixin here and there, so the fun begins.

Sorry for your loss of your FIL. He must have thought a lot of you to give this reminder of him and his joys in life.

I am sure you will make him proud!

Welcome to the forums Stubby.

I am a 60's fan because that is what I have and what I know, but I hear the 50's may be the best Airstreams in many respects. I hope that you and your wife enjoy it as much as your father in law did.

Welcome Stubby - very sorry for your loss. And I would echo the notion that he must have cared for you both to have blessed you with such a gift. This is our first year with ours and I already know which Godchild will receive it when we're gone.

Enjoy a world of travels and friendship on the road!

Oh - I also echo the need for lots of pictures!!! :-)

Okay first I second the pictures request! And second as you are working on your airstream and bump your head or nic your finger maybe break the 4th or 5th drill bit and hear an unusual noise remember it is NOT you father in law laughing his butt off! If you do think that it is him then just get use to it cause he is not going anywhere! Seems you cannot get some people to give up the airstream! Lol have some fun and find that camera!

Looks great. Looks like he used it and took care of it. No reason why it should not go another 55 years with just a little fixen.

Okay cwf is that not how it starts? Lets change the mattress oh i need to do something about that bed frame! and whats that in the corner is there some floor rot? Next thing you know you are breaking drill bits burning yourself with the welder and cussing harbor frieght knowing that you did not have to buy from there!!! LOL Stubby you will have a blast with the Airstream no matter how much or how little you do to it! All airstreams were made to have fun in so have a blast unless you just have to change that matterss. Harbor frieght sells drill bits in the 10 pack.

Haha, yup.
If you ain't having fun you ain't doing it right

Definitely take time capsule pics... Digital are cheap.

You probably want to change mattresses. Or at least wrap on plastic and put an egg crate foam topper.

Now I do not mean you should take a world caravan first. Just caravan to your driveway. Just one night. So you can "connect"... Say your own "thank you" for the gift that will always be part of you all.

As someone who hopes to pass along our AS, Almighty God willing, I will. I hope they "remember" and appreciate. The rest is up to them. Maybe your FIL was a sentimental fellow after all.

That's for sure

We have already taken so many pics of her. FIL was a logger for many years and used her in the woods. Took a bit of polish to the outside yesterday, wife can't believe how she shines like a mirror. Already have a few bumps and knuckle busters and I am sure I heard him laughing a few times. Will definitely have some great times in her I am sure
