Th first major project would be to water proof the trailer. If the gaskets are original, they will need replacing, especially the sewer vent pipe cover gaskets that only last 2 to 3 years.

The next possible major task would be to inspect the axles. If the trailer has been parked for an extended period of time, then the rubber rods solidify, making the shock absorbing properties of the axle useless. Also torsion axles only last about 25 years as an average, because of those rubber rods.

Rubber must be exercised to stay alive, but also, rubber always has a life span.

The following will help you check out the axle.

The Dura-Torque Axle

Welcome to the Forums!

Advice for a new Airstream owner? In your case, I would highly recommend a cold beer and the green chili fries at Shady Grove. Other than that, there are a ton of resources and guidance right here (my guidance aside).

howdy.
Thanks for the warm welcome. She needs a good bit of work and Ive never owned or worked on a trailer before. Honestly I don't even know how to hook her up to water and what to check when I get the propane tanks filled, but here are some shots of the sovereign at the temp house in Hutto. keep in mind I havent even had time to wash her off yet in these photos.

Looks great! AND you got a goat.

I would second previous posts about connecting at any rallies you can get hooked up with - always a great source of great info as to repairs, updates, general ideas. If you make sure you have decent tires, brakes, bearings and axles, even before any inside work you could travel with it to rallies for ideas even before you make any inside updates. I have always been impressed with how much space that layout seems to afford.

Thanks for the pics. Fun to see the interior! I love the outside shot with the farm structures in the background too. Welcome from another Austinite.

Welcome to the forums! Nice goat

About an hour north of you is Top's Vintage Trailer Works. He's a restorer, an active member on these forums (Top) and an all round nice guy. He'd be a great resource for you! He'd be able to inspect your trailer and figure out what needs doing.

Has a website here www.texasvintagetrailers.com

And a Facebook page where you can see some of the work he's done.

That goat is precious and would be a real treat at any rally. If you are planning to carry him around in the Airstream, you will definitely need some new curtains for him to chew on.
