New to Airstream!
Hello! We are Mike and Darby, and are the new owners of a 1997 Airstream Landyacht 30 motorhome. This is our first Airstream, but not our first RV.
We bought our unit used, and are finding all sorts of things that either need replacing, cleaning, painting, repairing……
We bought the unit the beginning of the month, have cleaned (got the water stains out of windshield curtains, cleaned the upholstery, polished the leather seats, repainted the water stained window frame pieces, etc. etc.) and have taken her camping for a couple of days to find out what didn't work (fridge won't switch to electric, water heater burner needs cleaning, engine light is on, brakes are spongy, fantastic fan doesn't work, and we have an undiscovered current draw….)
Today we took her in to our local truck garage and some $600 later she now has new gas line to the generator, brakes have been 'bled', air filter replaced, engine checked over. We found she needs new tires (which we expected although the seller told us they were in good shape) and a new front suspension air bag. Obviously we have made a new friend in the garage!
So now we are planning to go camping this weekend and enjoy the motorhome until we lay out some more money next week!
While we are new to Airstream, we are not new to RV's (large and small, 5th wheels and motorhomes, diesel and gas) so while we will be asking for input on unsolved mysteries, we hope we can be of assistance to others with problems we have conquered in the past.
