My husband, Ron, and I have been looking at the RV lifestyle for the past two years now. During that time, we've vacillated between a boat and an RV. We've now settled on an RV and, I'm sure like many, have had the pro and con discussions about what type, what brand, what usage, new vs. used, etcetera, etcetera! I'm excited to say that this weekend we put a deposit down on a 2011 27FB International and are waiting for the financing to go through (fingers crossed).

We have been lurkers on and off this site and have found invaluable tidbits and are thrilled to be a part of the AS community. I still have SOOOO many questions (too many to know where to start really) but mostly wanted to say hello for now. The emotions about the lifestyle change we are hoping to make are many. Neither of us are retired, though we've made the commitment to try our hand at Full-Timing sometime between now and May 1, 2014.

I suppose if I were to throw out just one question at this juncture it would be, "what is the best use of our time to prepare for full-timing?" Add to that the caveat that we will still need some type of revenue stream.

Whew - my heart is pounding and my mind is working overtime. Thankfully, I think I'm in the right place ;-)

Kindly and with excitement abounding,

Karis

Welcome and congrats! I have no wisdom to share on full timing. Most will tell you that's not my only lack of wisdom :-)

But I wanted to congratulate you and I share your excitement!

Congratulations! We're still working too with hopes of retiring in a few years. You may want to sign up for the Canopener as its not too far from you. Last year there were 80+ Airstreams there with many full timers who can be a resource for you.

Maybe we'll see you there!

Congrats and welcome! I would camp as much as possible before you full-time to help you decide what you need or want to make your lifestyle aboard your Airstream just the way you want it.

Thanks for the link Karen! We will most certainly try to attend the Canopener '14. Looks like a good number of reservations have been made already. Hopefully, we'll get in the right spot.

Rollster - great suggestion. As soon as we've "sealed the deal", we'll get to work on getting our tow vehicle - that will be another roller coaster ride, I'm sure! Then, camping it will be until we are ready to full-time (assuming, of course, that we'll still want to be that close to each other!) In the meantime, I've gotten most excited about simplifying our lives by preparing for a huge garage sale. It is so freeing to unload things that have sat in boxes for years.

We are about to join you. We, too, have a deposit on a 27 fb, with plans on using it extensively in retirement. It is our first AS, with the same learning curve in front of us, but a fantastic project to be faced with at this stage of our lives.

Double congrats. One on not deciding to go the boat route (I have one) and Two for going with an AS. You will get much more comfortable use out of the Airstream. Newbie to RVing here also.

Welcome to the family! You're going to really enjoy the travel experience with your new 27'. Having done the boat thing as well, I agree that utilization of the Airstream has been greater...

Welcome! We have been looking at semi-full timing. Keeping an income stream during our busy seasons at our store. Sort of doing it now. This year we are taking 12 weeks of "vacation", 2 more than last year...

Thank you all for your encouragement. Well - we've committed to buying our new baby. The financing didn't go as we had hoped - so we're going with Plan B which will actually be moving our timeline up rather than push it out further. My adrenaline is pumping now. The "are we crazy?" question has passed between us all night in between the giddiness we both feel - like we've found the unwrapped gift before Christmas morning! So, things on the list to tackle, not in any particular order:

- Secure insurance
- Find tow vehicle
- Sell current vehicles
- Put Ron's business up for sale
- Garage sale
- Investigate other revenue stream(s)
- Inquire about Workamping opportunities
- Continue to downsize
- Find home for my 2 cats
- Plan our future
- Register for our first rally - looking at Canopener 2014 since it's close

My-oh-my...someone find me the paper bag - I think I'm hyperventilating. So, are we crazy? ;-)

Karis, a new AS mom

You need some perspective

When I get nervous about money, or are we doing the right thing, I get out a tape measure and stretch it out to 75 or so inches ( average lifespan)??? Then put my finger on 66 and 64 inches, my wife and my age. And look at where we have been, and what is left, and things feel MUCH better. GOOD LUCK guy's and enjoy whatever comes.
