New member with a 65 Caravel

Hello there my wife and I own a couple of vintage trailers (1960 Aloha and a 1964 Silverstreak) but just purchased our first airstream a 1965 Caravel. I heard this was a good site so here we are.

Welcome to the Forum.

I hope your Caravel is in good shape. Ours was very nice when we got it ten years ago, and has given great service fot ten years and over 100K miles.

The one thing I would suggest is that if it has the original axle, replace it with a new one now. The axle on our Caravel broke, wheel came off, hit two cars, trailer dropped to the ground, skin on the side was damaged. All was handled by our insurance, but it was not a fun time.

I have since learned that it is rather common for these trailers (early Caravels) to brake axles.

I feel that the Caravel is the best use of space in any Airstream. Really a nice trailer for one or two people. We take ours on the road for months at a time.

Enjoy

We had no idea that it was a common problem until we attended the Rocky Mountain Vintage Airstream Rally a few years ago. It was a big topic, complete with examples.
