New member - What have I got????

Hi Ya'll I'm new - from Louisiana- please hel[p me find out what Airstream I've got! The serial # is LA CA #3107. It measures 15' for the body and 17 and a half feet with the tounge. I thought it might be a 17' 52 or 53 Clipper, but notice how close the windows are on the door side. The only pict I've seen that are close to mine the windows are about a foot apart. Mine they are close together. Help

I would agree that Clipper 2 at 53Clipper has the windows further apart. But Clipper 1 has only one window. Note the upper left corner of that webpage for the California serial #s -- 3100+. 3107 would fall into the right sequence for a '53 Clipper. We'll need the 'sperts to chime in!

Thanks - Clipper 1 shows 3 windows on other side - mine has only 2. This is strange. C'mon 'sperts - what is it? Dave

Not that I am a 'spert...but I do know where to find some additional info!

Check out the some of the catalogs, brochures & other information found here on the VAC website. What you will find is that in the '40s & early '50s Airstreams were pretty much custom ordered with different interiors at the customer's request. The length determined the model, but within a model there were different options.

I concur, that what you have based on the VIN # is a '53 Clipper...pretty cool!

Thanks to you too! Here is the other side. Notice this thing does not have a dent or ding on it! It had been spray painted with silver paint and I am in the process of getting that off before I polish it. Thanks again. Dave

Looks nice...but I wonder why they would have painted it? Hope there's no bondo or other damage underneath ~

Is the "green" tinge algae, the paint or reflection? If algae, I would be diligent about checking the floor as the moisture levels have probably been such that there is some floor rot &/or frame rust. It's a cutie though...gotta love those 13 panels!
