New Member - Researching Airstreams

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the forum. I decided to join the forum as my wife and I are considering purchasing an Airstream. We are impressed with the quality of the Airstreams and the layout/storage design per linear foot.

We currently have a box style trailer which is total 31 feet. Its "good" for what we paid; however the quality of cabinetry etc leaves something to be desired. As well, at 31 feet, it is not ideal for campsite availability.

We hope to get our total length down to close to 25 feet. We are looking at the Flying Cloud 25 FB Twin, 2015 or newer (ducted A/C). From what I can tell, has an impressive floor plan with almost as much storage as we have in our current trailer.

Our only reservation is the potential for hail damage. We have unpredictable weather in our parts of Canada and run into one or two hail storms a year in our travels. I started a different thread on that here http://www.airforums.com/forums/f4/l...or-177939.html

Anyway, we've already received some helpful feedback; thanks to those folks. I am sure I will have more questions as we continue looking.

Cheers,

Welcome from Colorado: You picked the right website to research the Airstream travel trailers and the Airstream lifestyle. I still remember being at an RV show and looking at all kinds of travel trailers. I went to the Airstream display last on purpose and WOW, what a difference in design and quality of construction. Airstreams have always been expensive due to the aluminum body, thus they try to make them as luxurious as possible. And they last a very, very long time. I have two of them, a 1986 34' and a 1975 27'. They tow very good with less sway potential than a box trailer.

You will need to visit an Airstream dealer and spend time in the various models under consideration. Make sure the seating is comfortable, the beds are comfortable and easy to make up, the bathroom is big enough, and the storage is adequate for your intended use. Airstreams are relatively small due to their shape, so keep that in mind. I still bonk my head on the overhead cabinets and the entry door.

My 1986 has been hailed on three times since 2005. It is a bain of the all aluminum body. There is no easy fix for hail damage. I am used to the dents now, but they certainly diminish the value of my trailer. I have promised myself I will head weather forecasts like a private pilot might. We were aware of potential storms, but I pressed on regardless. Mistake. I will detour around a thunderstorm or stop and let the storm pass in front of me from now on. And you might consider covered storage for your Airstream if possible. It helps alot.

Just for fun, here is a photo of my 1975 Overlander 27'. They haven't changed all that much through the years.
