New Member Lurking

Hello to all,

I've been lurking on the site for a while. I'm interested in purchasing an Airstream trailer. I have admired these trailers for years and found invaluable information on this site.
I might be asking a lot of questions on the various threads, please bear with me, these units are expensive and I'm not interested in a project. I just want a new toy to play with!

Thanks,
TerryC

Welcome TerryC,

We're glad you're out of the shadows and are posting instead of lurking. As for questions...ask away. A few questions asked before you purchase may help avoid any buyer's remorse.

Regards,

Kevin

Welcome Terry. I am also looking for an Airstream and have been lurking around the forum for a while. I borrowed a small travel trailer this fall and traveled for a month to make sure I liked the lifestyle. I LOVED IT and want an Airstream more than ever! Good luck with your hunting and I think you will find this forum to be the best.

Happy Hunting,

kelly

Welcome Terry! We just bought ours last July and took around 18 months to read thru this forum and really acquaint ourselves with what we needed to make an intelligent judgment when buying. There is a ton of info, and the search engine isn't very specific. You may have better luck doing a Google search. But do take your time, as anything you need to know/ask is pretty much in here...this membership is tops for sharing! Have fun deciding what your flavor will be!

Terry, it's hard not to go out and buy one once you get the bug, but it's a good idea to keep reading and learn all you can. The search engine is getting better, but just looking around all the subforums you can learn a lot. There are also some books on RVing in general that can help you make decisions—check Amazon and see which get the best reviews.

A lot of us feel buying a lightly used one is the best way to go, but it takes some effort to find what you want and it saves a lot of money.

Terry,

Welcome aboard! Since you are in California you are invited to every Calstreamers Rally. Come on out and see the trailers to help you find the floorplan that works for you.

When you trailer shop. Make sure you sit on the throne and lay on the bed. If either don't fit. You won't be happy.

Terry;
Welcome, and you've come to the right place for any questions you'll have. Lots of great folks in the Forum and very willing to help. Think you'll enjoy an Airstream and the community that goes with it.

When it comes time to buy, suggest getting savvy on the NADA Blue Book thing and what you'll end up paying. According to an article in the most recent "Airstream Life" magazine--the official publication of the company--I paid twice what my '94 30' Excella is worth at $13,000, and am a fool for doing so. But I don't know where else I could get this fine a $70K (original price) unit for a fraction of the cost---I got a lot of RV for the money and would do it again!

Have fun learning--and there is a lot of learning available here. Hold on to what's good and useful, and suggest ignoring the stuff that's not.

Welcome Terry;

Since I've gotten my 76 Argosy the forum has saved me a lot of grief in finding parts for restoring it quickly that combined with a lot of helpful input from the members is priceless.
Try a lot of models on for size, I found what looked to be a nice layout and it didn't fit, some of the floorplans are a, what were they thinking moment. I was lucky to fit the trailer to my tow vehicle, but some advice TV's come and go pick the right trailer to suit you for many years to come.

John

Thanks to you all!!

I've found these units to be quite expensive! The best price I've got for a Flying Cloud 20' is $50,000.00 "out the door" does that sound like a good price?

Terry, I haven't kept up on prices since we bought our Safari in late 2007, and I think they have continued to raise prices, but that sounds too high to me.

Terry.

When your shopping around for prices, being a little more specific always helps.

Then, you can call other dealers and get a more meaningful quote.
