New member- Just bought our first Airstream

We just bought a Airstream over the weekend, we haven't towed it home just yet. The owner needed to find the rest of the paperwork, he just had his wife pay the tags. He didn't know the year of it, and I don't either. He said he bought it new, and couldn't remember when. He said he thought he bought it in the 60's. The bad thing is my camera died on us when we tried to take photos of it. I measured from the bumper to the hitch where the ball hooks up, ant it seams to be 22 feet. I has a couch in the front, street side Princess stove, curbside fridge and a bed in the back. It doesn't have a outside storage in the rear, it's on the curbside behind the axle.

Any idea what model it might be?
what kind of weight is a 22 foot Airstream trailer? gross and tongue weight?
What bolt pattern are the wheels? tires are 700X15 but are shot.

Thanks so much,
Bryan

Bryan - I sure hope no money has changed hands yet?!
Finding paperwork? If you are selling something, don't you get all the relevant paperwork together before advertising it, or at least immediately after the sale is listed?
Doesn't know the year? Just had his wife "pay for the tags"? Paying for the tags normally requires title or some form of paperwork doesn't it? Buying insurance (required to "pay for the tags") also requires valid paperwork.

Is it possible something is fishy with this deal, or at the least the seller?
I really do hope NOT, but keep your money in your pocket until the seller provides "the rest of the paperwork". Been there, got the gimmie cap (and that's about all) to prove it.

He has the pink, his wife misplaced it. The trailer wasn't listed for sale, I stopped to see if it was. The couple has to be in their 70's. I gave a deposit, it's not the trailer in my avatar. The one I gave a deposit on has 12 panels across the front plus the middle one.

Welcome to the group!

After you get the paperwork there is a specification section on the Airstream site that will give you all the technical info on weights once you match up year and floorplan.
Good call on thinking about new tires.

Oh and send lots of pictures, we love them.

The trailer that I put a deposit on look's like member Larry in Mo's trailer. I've been looking all afternoon, it look's to be a Flying Cloud.

Paperwork

This may sound crazy, but the title will have the year on it. Are you considering buy it without a title. The registration should also have that info. If he can't locate the title, it may be possible to get a duplicate from the DMV. Just a thought.

You'll feel even better when you're able to hook up and take home.

Congratulations and good luck,

Kevin

So, the PO is in his seventies and purchased the AS new in 1958 when he was in his early to mid twenties. If he wasn't a Mr. Fixit, you could have a lot of original details to photograph and share with all of us. Even if he modified the AS, you should try to get as much history from him as possible. Some early photographs of it in use would be a really cool thing for you to have. Congratulations, and I hope all works out well.
