New Member Intro

Hello out there! Just joined today, and I am looking forward to visiting with like-minded folks. I am the owner of a 1960 24' Tradewind Land Yacht in mostly good original condition, with the exception of a missing (I'm guessing, here) Astrodome. All that is in the 14" x 26" roof opening is a piece of plexiglass. I was all set to purchase a new dome cover from Inland RV, but got to wondering if I wouldn't need a fan, or some type of mechanism to raise the dome. I really don't know what was original, or if it's possible to stay original with this feature. I would appreciate any knowledge or suggestions. Thanks in advance...Carlotta

Welcome to the forums and congrats on the trade wind. That almost sounds like a hole for an airconditioner to me. Post some pics maybe? Cheers

Nope, not for AC

Hi Rodney. Thanks for the idea, but the AC was originally window in the bedroom area, in later years was put on the roof, mid-trailer. This opening is over the living area. I see you also have a Tradewind. What do you have over your living area?

Yea, sounds like the A/C is missing.
But envision an Airstream with a Sunroof. New interpretation to the term Vistaview.
Tom.

I have a vent (say 1ft sq) just aft of the front gaucho, a airconditioner mid-way/bed room, and another vent just forward of the bath in the bedroom.

Carlotta ~

We have a rectangular vent, same approx size and in the same location in our '64 GT. It isn't/wasn't for A/C it's a vent. It raises & lowers manually with screw knobs. I don't have a picture from the inside, but here's one of the old original one from the outside taken while polishing the roof:

We've since replaced it with a new one from Vintage Trailer Supply

I'll see if I can get a couple of shots of the new one and the interior lifting mechanism tonight.

Shari

Hi Carlotta: Vintage Trailer Supply has a reproduction of the early Astrodome, seen here:

http://www.vintagetrailersupply.com/...ults.asp?Cat=6

You will need two LeDeux openers, one for each end, or perhaps more such as the brackets for them, depending on what remains in your Trade Wind. A great source for repair information is R.J. Dial's web site:

http://www.vintageairstream.com/rr_home.html

and more detailed repair and rebuild information on a smaller 14 inch x 14 inch Hehr vent cover is here:

http://www.vintageairstream.com/floy...ion/vents.html

Explore R.J.'s web site for a while and you might find answers to your questions, along with a few more questions. Welcome to the Forums!
