Hi all,
The husband and I just purchased a 1970 31ft International. We plan to live in with our dogs while remodeling our house and then take it out for weekend getaways. It's in decent condition, but needs some love so I'll likely be checking in often for advice. Such a wealth of information on here, look forward to learning from you all!

Hi, always nice to meet a new vintage Airstream owner. Maybe your 70 thirty one footer is called a Sovereign, which I think was the top of the line in 70. The International trim level was the top option. Sounds like you have a very nice Airstream.
You are going to get to know it quite well full timing in it for a while. Old trailers usually have many needs, so be prepared for problems at the worse possible time. It builds character. You might be remodeling your home as well as your Airstream.

Welcome from a neighbor in Lavaca/Harris County.
We live in Houston, but have a ranch in Lavaca County and are fellow '70 something Streamers.
Glad to have you in the family

Ha! Lol, newbie here doesn't even know what the heck she has! Yes, a sovereign! I realized that after I wrote the post and had a "doh!" moment. I thought about going back and correcting, but then hoped maybe no one would notice. We look forward to getting to know our trailer and welcome the hard lessons since it seems to be the only way my husband and I ever get things through our thick skulls

Welcome.
You will have to learn plumbing and electrical skills taking care of your Airstream that will be handy in the house as well.

Two new homes! Nice...welcome to the gang. This place can get overwhelming sometimes with all the problems and recommendations. Just remember most will never apply to you but the ones that do will help tremendously. Welcome to the shiny side of life!

Welcome and Congratulations! I too live in Austin. I'm downtown in a highrise and keep my AS moving around in different locations around town. Be sure to post a pic or two when you can.

We've remodeled a few properties and even though we hate anything to do with plumbing and electrical....we'll do it when we have to.
I can't imagine it'd be harder than a traditional home....jinx!
That said, anyone know anyone in Austin who works on these? It'd be helpful to have a local to assist when needed.

The challenge is finding the stuff inside an Airstream and then gaining enough access to work on it. I have watched them be built and was there every day when our Classic was built. All the wiring goes inside the walls before the inner skin goes on. Then all the plumbing and furnace duct work goes in before the cabinetry.
Accessing the water pump and water filter can create a quick refresher course for one's Navy vocabulary.....
There have been a few instances where I have wished for an etch-a-sketch moment to clear the cabinets to see what those installers did!
Enjoy the experience. There are lots of folks on this forum that "have been there and done that" that can provide assistance based upon their experiences.
