New member from SW Louisiana

Hello all,
New member here. Never owned a motor home or camper before. Totally new at this. Never had been around the camping lifestyle. Purchased a 76 Tradewind just yesterday. It was in very good shape. The Rv park manager didnt want to sell it because he rents it out to workers that always come and go when work is available. Bathroom in the rear, one double bed. Kitchen. And a couch I guess its a fold down to a bed. Pulled it home from an RV park 2 hours away in a thunderstorm. Basically got this thing on a whim. Couldnt beat the price. Next to nothing. Not sure what our plans are for it. Its a laundry list of "to dos" but I have all the time in the world. My priority is getting it road safe. Tires, brakes, lights. Went home for lunch and my wife was already pulling stuff out. First time I ever walked in an airstream was this past deer hunting season. A friend had a really big trailer and it had 5 beds in it. No kitchen. He pulls it to he lease every year and parks it the whole season. I helped him change the brakes before the season started. I dont think ill turn it into a deer camp like he did. I just want to fix it up so me, my wife, and son can go on a weekend camping trip every once in a while. Im sure ill be posting questions and pics a few times. Probably a lot. I have questions now while writing this but Ill put those in the appropriate forums.

Welcome!
If he didn't want to sell it why did he let it go for "next to nothing"? Can you post some pics?

He rented it out to off shore workers but the off shore oil industry is really suffering right now in Louisiana. RV parks here are mostly base camps for workers. I guess he couldn't find any renters so he sold it to me.

We peeled off the ancient window tent on all the windows. Threw away the old mattresses and smelly curtains.

You will find this is your new absorber - of time, money and mechanical abilities to keep this trailer where you want it.

Welcome to a tremendous repository of opinions and knowledge. The fun is to determine which is which.

Perhaps this is a thought...

Opinions... submitter ready to stand by and watch
Knowledge... submitter ready to get hands dirty with you and/or admit they are wrong about something?

Nah.. can't be that simple. Need to move this to 'random thoughts' thread... =)

Congrats! In Louisiana, you can find plenty of Airstream owners who are more than willing to explain your Airstream to you, and help insure you are ready to go on adventures! See www.wbcci.org , the Airstream Owners Club, and tell them 5809 sent you!
