New Member - Bambi II

I recently aquired a 64 Bambi II. It is mostly original but it has issues with the shower pan and dump collector. THis is my first Airstream but I have been around RV s for years. I am trying to decide if I want to take it back to original or do a custom interior. I currently Fly the 2nd airplane that I built.

Welcome to the forums and good luck with whatever you decide to do with your Bambi. The search tool on this forum will be one of your best friends in getting you lots of info on your restoration. Oh yeah, and I'll second the request for pictures!

welcome, flyguy. what airplanes? they're the only thing that can distract me from Airstreams. I built a BD-5 back in 1972, but never got an engine. I'm getting ready to build a Sinus motor glider this fall. Way too many cool things to see in Utah, but the geological patterns that are only visible from the air are incredible.

I'm a fan of original, but only to look at in someone else's cool twinkie. I like mine highly modified to fit my own ideas of what comfort and utililty are. Plus, "original" is pretty poor in using storage space. Computers, cameras, printers, scanners, camping gear, the wine cellar--all take surprising space.

Thanks Mel and Gen, This forum is more complex than the aircraft forum I have used . Gonna take awhile to figure out. I figure out how to build the small unavailable collector used on the Bambi, but I am not suer how to share that info.

Firefly,

By the collector, you mean the dump valve? If you have photos, I'd like to see them. I've rebuilt a 1961 Bambi with its owner and the biggest remaining problem is making that dump valve modern.

Thanks Roger, Always wanted a -5 but built a Long-ez and currently fly a Kolb Firefly on floats. Can be view on the home page of www.tnkolbaircraft.com. I am tempted to build out my own design on the inside and keep the outside stock.

I used a stock Valterra 3" collector with a 2" side input. Using a Dewalt Mitre saw (my rotar mill) I cut the top off just below the top of the 2" input. I then cut down a 3x4 closet flange and partially cut an arc in the side to clear the 2" input and slid that down over the top of the collector. This lets you keep the original thetford valve but you have a bayonet end. It is the only way I could keep every thing as short as need to avoid rebuilding the whole plumbing. Don't know how to post picture yet. This is my first day.

Another Bambi II Saved

Congratulaions Steve on your " new" Bambi II and Welcome to the forums. I have owned my Bambi II since 1984. At that time it was just considered as an old trailer. My how the times have changed for the better.

Steve, it's not intuitive to post photos.... use the paperclip icon and then find the file. You must also then upload the file... good luck, welcome, and please post photos ( of the aircraft) .
