New member in Baltimore area

Hi all,
Just wanted to say hello. My wife and I just purchased a 70 Overlander (27)
and we love it. Needless to say there will be lots of questions to get me started. I have wanted one of these for years and now that I have one I have learn all the systems.

If anyone can recommend a reputible RV shop in my area I would appreciate it. The only one I know of is Brooks-Ramsey. It doesn't hurt to get recommendations from those of you that have been around for awhile.

My first task is to replace the refer with a new one. We will be spending most of our time away from electric. The old fridge works well on electric but I haven't been able to get it started on propane yet. I have a honda portable for AC when we really need it but will be running on propane and battery most of the time.

Thanks!

Welcome! We're glad you're here, and you've definitely come to the right place to find lots of good info on your Airstream. Good luck and show us some pictures of your Overlander!

Welcome!

Don't assume you need to replace your refrigerator. You may have dirt, spiderwebs, or other critters blocking the airflow, or propane flow.

If you have a manual light unit, it may just need adjustment or a new thermocouple to keep the propane on. These appliances are common to all RV's so you won't necessarily need an Airstream mechanic to work on it. It's a lot less expensive to repair the old one - so at least get an opinion. Many people have working reefers that are older than yours.

Hey, I'm glad to meet someone that "coastal" like me. You may also find that Colonial Airstream in NJ can advise you on your refrigerator. They sell a LOT of Airstreams.

Hope you don't have any of the dreaded tail droop on your Airstream.

If you ever head down toward Virginia Beach (recommend OCTOBER - beautiful and most of the tourists are gone) give me a holla!

Thanks for the welcomes!
Paula,
It's more than just a good cleaning. The latches are broken, door panels cracked, broken in spots. Pretty much a mess. Given the fact that most of our time will be spent on gas I would probably be more comfortable with a new one.

Tail droop? <smile> So that's what I should call it? Yup, looks just like it sounds. I didn't notice it right away but it's there. The section just under the head is hanging low. Is this a typical issue? Should I post a pic somewhere so that we can be sure we're talking about the same thing?

Hi John,
Just wanted to give you another East Coast welcome. If you noticed the droop - it's probably there. You can probably find out more info through the "search" feature on the upper blue line - 3rd from the right side. Just type in "rear droop" and you'll probably see lots of threads covering this topic (maybe some photos as well). Yes we'd like to see your photos! Of the exterior and interior. We love photos here!
Good luck with it and again, welcome!
George
