I don't currently own an airstream but have always liked them. I love sailboats because they are sleek, highly efficient and compact and they must be well made in order to be seaworthy. Perhaps I like airstreams for similar reasons. I have a 1720 house on a farm and would like an airstream as additional guest space. Adding onto the farm house would diminish its historic appeal.

If your neighbors and local goverment types don't care, and it's semi-permanent, may I suggest the larger models, from 31' to 34' long.. They are roomier, have better bath facilities, and are relatively less expensive than smaller units because fewer people can tow them.. Even if you have to borrow a truck to get it on your farm, it would be lower overall cost, and roomier... It could also handle a few more guests, with a little more privacy... I'd also recommend newer than 1975-ish, to limit risk of major repair and older or obsolete appliances and plumbing problems.. (Though a 1980 model could be scary-troublesome...)

And who knows, you may get the urge to buy a big honkin' truck and drive off on a trip yourself one day...

[Foiled Again]

I was surfing Craigslist yesterday and found SEVERAL Airstreams and Argosy's for sale. It's a bit inconvenient (or I haven't figured out how to really use it ) because you have to search by City or State. I found several in North Carolina cities; but If your radius for hauling one home is say 500 miles you'll have to check every city or state within that radius.

And if you find a six metre Minuet please let me know. I want to get a minnie for my sister. (Am I a great big sister or what?!)

There is something to be said for using a smaller AS for a guest house. Lenght of stay. The longer the AS the longer the guest may feel comfortable staying. My 10 ft Scottman is fine for a night or two, but having to walk across the yard and waking up the dog to go to the Loo at 2 am has a way of encouraging visitors to move on.

I foxhunted in Middleburg some years ago. Beautiful up there. I have an 87 34' and love it, but we are using it for travel, mountains and beach. And I did have to buy a "big honking truck".
