New Member - 1970 Globetrotter

Goodmorning Everyone,
I recently purchased a 1970 21' globetrotter that I am in the process of moving into. The camper looks pretty good (hence the impulse buy), however I know it has some issues. (last time it was licensed was 1993 and I don't know if any of the systems have been used since then). I have replaced some dry rot in the floor under the berth and just inside the door. I need to get a battery and some propane tanks (yes a new regulator as well) before I can even get it checked out.
My big question today is can I pull this with my Jeep Cherokee? or Ford Ranger? Does anybody know how much it weighs? Also I need keys to the access panels, do I need to have the old locks drilled out and replaced or can I purchase keys somewhere? Thank you all so much for all the educational posts on this site. I'm gonna need a lot more help.

The data that I have on file says your trailer weights 3330 and has a tongue weight of 380 pounds. You will have to check the tow ratings of your vehicles to find out if they will tow it comfortably, but at a minimum you will need a weight distributing hitch and a brake controller installed.

Good luck with your project and welcome to the forum.

Greetings mstblove!

Welcome to the Forums and the world of Vintage Airstream ownerhsip!

I have attached a file that contains the weights and measures for most Airstreams produced in the past 40+ years. Keep in mind that these weights do not include options, accessories, water, LP, nor personal possessions. The table shows your coach at approximately 3,400 pounds which means that your loaded (wet weight) will likely be somewhere between 4,500 and 5,000 pounds with the loaded hitch weight approaching 600 pounds.

Good luck with your Globetrotter!

You can get a key to the access door at the dealer. They are generic.

re: keys. if there is no dealer easily available a locksmith can make you keys, should be able to do this without breaking or drilling out the locks.
