We have owned Two Airstream in the last 30 years when the children were growing up. Our 1st. was a 1959 single Axle we bought at Auction. our Second was a 1968 28 foot. We did a nice remodel and used it for several years. We sold both and are looking ahead to our retirement. We plan to hit the road in 5 to 9 years. We are searching for the smaller size that will be approved in state and federal camp grounds all over America. We are looking to Buy a good clean used unit. I am looking forward to finding the perfect Airstream in the next few years.

The usual response to size that is maximum to have good access to sites in state and national parks is between 24 and 27 feet -- tow vehicle being utilized can make some difference. I haven't experienced any problems with my Over lander/Suburban combination.

If you are interested in late model units, The 25 footers are very versatile. We have camped extensively over the last nine years (1,500 nights/130,000 miles). We had a 2005 25FB for seven years. We down-sized to a 23FB for one year. It just wasn't cutting it for our long trips. We recently went back to a 25FB.

In our extensive travel all over the United States, we have found that a 25 footer has been able to get us into anywhere we have wanted to go. The 25's are also large enough to be very comfortable for long adventures. We often stay gone in the Airstream for as long as three months.

Welcome, Colorado folks..... I returned from a big moho to AS about six months ago and am in a 30 footer. But, for versatility something with a floor plan similar to the Flying Cloud 23 FB:

Seems very nice. Mainly, the best bathroom in any AS, IMO. And at 23 feet, can go almost anywhere. Of course for luxury, the 30 footers, with the top being a new Classic.

Final suggestion is of course a used 23 FB. I would avoid the 25 D, as the bed is nearly impossible to get made unless you have special abilities. Bed is quite cramped as well.
