I introduced myself quite some time ago, but it's time to introduce the soon-to-be-retired me.
I gave notice to my "real" job that I'm retiring after nearly 35 years working for a not-for-profit that provides services to developmentally disabled folks. It has been rewarding, but it's my time. My last day is May 16.
I'll still do my other job- I'm an elected County Legislator in Orange County, NY at least through 2009 when my term ends. I plan on running for another four-year term, but that's a part time thing. Sam is a nurse and she will continue full-time until October, when she usually heads west for a month of fly fishing in Montana. Then she will do per diem work when the fish aren't biting.
All in all it will leave a lot more time to enjoy our Safari- I will even be able to go with Sam to Montana instead of just flying out to meet her for a week.
It's exciting and a little bit scary, but I can't wait for May 16!
You will love retirement! It is the greatest! June will mark 5 years for me... busier now than I was when I was working. Don't know how I ever had time to hold down a full time job!
Get that Safari out on the road!

Congratulations you will love it. I retired Jan. 3rd 2008 and have had a great time. None of my plans really worked out like I thought they worked out better than I thought. Retirement is fun and you will find yourself doing things which you had not planed for. I am going back to work on Monday because I was made an offer I can't refuse and it will make my second retirement even more fun.
