New in need of advice

Greetings to all! I just joined the forum in order to draw from your experience. I believe that I have come upon an excellent opportuity to purchase my first airstream. It is a 1974 29' Ambassador. It has not been on the road for 8 years. It has been enclosed in a barn for that time and only subject to Missouri's temperature extremes. The present owner purchased it new. He has performed annual preventitive maintenance, has all the manuals, etc. and has taken exceptional care of the camper. He says everything worked fine when last on the road. The Ambassador has had no modifications. It has one small dent in the front. I have the utmost respect for the integrity and honesty of the seller. His asking price is, in my view, very reasonable, very attractive. I'll probably disclose later in this thread.
I know very little about the Airstreams beyond their reputation, but have wanted one for quite some time. I am excited by this opportunity. All I've seen of it so far is an outside view from within the barn and a walk thru with poor light. What I hope to gain from this thread is valuable advice on how to proceed. What sort of things should I be wary of? I will inspect it again this weekend. This time it will be outside and I intend to test all systems. Any suggestions? Finally, I would like to know what you think it is worth. I look forward to your replys.
Thanks,
JD

Welcome to the forums. You will find tons of good information and divergent views on just about every topic here. This may be of some help http://www.vintageairstream.com/rr_t...condition.html . Also, several members are willing to serve as inspectors to help out people who are a long way from the camper they are interested in or just to provide some exprtise. I dont have the list handy but you can probally find it by doing a search. Good luck.
