I'll be picking up my Sovereign today! Pretty excited. Old Airstreams in decent shape are hard to find up here in Alaska. This one is in near original configuration. The skin looks good with 1 small puncture near the bottom on the left. I won't be doing a restoral, but I will be updating it. Didn't have a good opportunity to study the axles, but with a cursory eyeball they look pretty good. I'll be snapping some photos today...
Yeah, I'll bet there's slim pickin's in your area! Even a tremendous deal from the lower 48 would lose its appeal after paying to get it there.
Is it a rear bath model? Some of those units had problems with the frame, often caused by all that weight behind the axles.
You can learn all about it in these forums.
I'm refurbing a '73 Sovereign and have done lots of research (mostly here) on updating the systems.
Keep us up to date on your progress.
Good luck.
Jeff
I might suggest, if you are going to update parts of your interior... even if you find parts that don't work ~ you may find serious buyers for some of the parts. Too many folks rip out stuff and throw it away, sometimes that "stuff" is desperately wanted by other Airstreamers! Even if you are far away some things can be shipped easily! Post pictures/explanations of things you take out, you may find some takers!
