New guy from Denmark, Europe.

Hello everyone !

Name's Lars, I'm from Copenhagen Denmark.

Just yesterday I fulfilled a dream about owning an Airstream motor-home.
The deal was finalised Sunday, but I have yet the see the thing.
It's in New Mexico... and I'm 5230 (!) miles away
here in freezing snow-covered Copenhagen

Bummer!

It's an 1977 28' Argosy in, what I believe is, pretty good shape.
Here's a few pics so you experts can get an idea about it:


























I'm new to motor-homes, but I did some 20 back have a trailer-type
camper. It was a very small, late sixties Danish build thing that I completely rebuild.
Unfortunately I can only find these pics:





Yep, you've guessed it: I like old stuff.
For the last 30 years I have been messing with first old cars
and then old motorcycles.
Here's some of the bikes I've rebuild:

My 1979 6 cylinder Honda CBX 1000 Supersport
that I took from this:



..to this:




My 1954 BSA 650cc





...that I am in the process of rebuilding ( for the second time during my ownership )


Then my 1976 Supercharged Honda GL100 Goldwing
that went from this:

...and lastly my 1939 INDIAN engined 600cc supercharged
Land Speed Racer that I build from the ground up
and air-freighted to the Bonneville Salt Flats this summer





....so I guess I'm somewhat prepared
for the challenges of maintaining and fixing this 33 years
old motor-home contraption, but I'm gonna' need a lot
of help with this new-to-me motor-home thingy.

Now ( phew...finally ! ) the reason for buying that wonderful
thing: I want to come back next year to Bonneville
AND
make a loooooong tour around that beautiful country of yours
like I did some 30 years ago as a VERY young man.

I want to have a more exiting life so I put the house up for sale,
downscaling my expenses so I can fly over each year in the future
...step into my Argosy and go touring and touring and touring.

Doesn't that sound like a nifty plan ?

I will be back with a ton of questions if you will allow me to
pick your brains.

like something you'd expect from a 11 year old

I've got an old Honda CX500 that I'd like to convert to a Cafe bike - I see on the Net that the CX500 platform has been used in Europe for economical Cafe conversions...

My mother was Danish, and I spent an interesting 6 months as a young man in the Old Country in the '60's. I vividly remember the dreary day in December when I boarded a 2,000 ton freighter, with my BMW R-60 motorcycle in Copenhagen for the two week voyage to the New World. (my ticket specified New York or first U.S. Atlantic Port)

I remember the old Nimbus 4 cylinder motorcycles, my last motorcycle was a 1938 Indian 4 cylinder that I bought as a basket case for $25 and eventually sold for a modest 14,000% profit

Occasionally, around the campfire, when uninhibited from consuming a little too much whiskey, I tell tales of my ascent up Denmark's higest peak.

I would also add that your photographic skills are second to none; your shots are all crystal-clear, well-composed, and perfectly lit. Kudos to you on that, you have obviously taken an interest in photography along your path towards Octane Nirvana.

And, as you may have already noticed, there is Danish heritage here in North America, too

Wow! Your bikes are beautiful. You have superb technical skills and design skills too. The Argosy motorhome is indeed in good hands.

I also enjoy motorcycling. My two main rides are a 2000 Triumph Sprint ST and a 2000 Ducati 750SS: My guest ride is a 1986 BMW k75T.

Stop by when you are touring here and we will take a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway, one of the best motorcycling roads in the world. It is only 30 miles from my home.

In fact I AM coming over in a couple of weeks, for a few days, to pick
up the MH and inspect it together with a friend who lives in Santa Fe.

As of now ( this will probably change...more than once ) is to
take a tour somewhat like this




as it covers places that I'd really like to go visit friends
both American and tree old friends from back here who has moved
to the land of the free, home of the brave

( Psst: the rest of you would like to know that the highest "peak"
in Denmark is 170,86 meters ( yes: meters ) or about 600 feet (yep: feet)
